Dilaudid- taper or w/d in pregnancy

by momtobe692, Sep 16, 2009 02:11AM
Hi there,
I have been taking dilaudid for about 1 year, and before that I was taking other narcotic medication; re car accident and then a surgery.  I recently found out I am pregnant.  While I intend on talking with my OB and PCP, I would like to know if anyone knows the risk of w/ding suddenly on a fetus, vs a withdrawal that is tapered, vs having less while pregnant.  I have chronic pain now and have been off long enough to know that much.  However, this is not just about me anymore.  I didn't have this problem with my first child, and I am going insane trying to figure it out.  I swore I read somewhere that the straight w/d could cause a miscarriage.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You sound like a very caring mom and I know you are worried, I would call your doc to get an emergency appointment.  Alot happens in the 1st trimester.  My adopted son's bio mom used drugs while pregnant and 6 yrs later I'm still seeing the affects.  Having said that, I know several girls who were perscribed pain meds for back pain while pregnant.  Don't stress yourself. See your doc and let him help you.  Keep us posted.  You've really hit gold by finding this site. The people here are so caring and supportive.
