Disturbing trend

Dear friends,

  As most of you know I struggle primarily with mental health issues which lead me to this forum in an uncertain way. I am quite stable now after a breakdown a couple of weeks ago and have always appreciated being welcomed back.
   The issue I wish to address is that of dual addiction that I have:
A) Researched on the Internet
B) Seen evidence of on this forum.
   Since I was busy at work today, I missed the chance to respond to alot of posts that I feel I could have had some positive input on. What I've noticed , both here and in my research, is that many opiate abusers are dually addicted to strong sedatives like xanax. And most prescribing Dr's know this is a potentially lethal combination. I take xanax and 2 other meds with a legit prescription and need, but use as directed. Some may think that switching to xanax or the like to alleviate severe withdrawl (withdrawal) symptoms from stopping opiates is a good idea...but at the risk of drawing hostile remarks, I must strongly disagree.Consider this...do you want to end up with a new addiction, or worse, end up addicted to both opiates and sedatives?
   I say these words in an attempt to be helpful, NOT to be hostile. I am merely concerned about numerous posts I read today after finishing a long days' work.
It is not my intention to stir up controversy, merely to spare other human beings needless additional suffering due to making poor choices...not that I haven't made my share of mistakes in life either. I truly hope this does not offend anyone. Tomorrow is a busy day so I will check in only occasionaly. Have a good recovery,all. God Bless,  Steve

I hear you and what your saying there! I am on both also 7.5 Hydro's 3-4 a day and also Valium. However, my benzo addiction was long before any hydro addiction.

You are absolutly correct and the 2 are different breads....as where you can c/t or sub treat w/ Hydro's....You can NOT Cold Turkey ANY Benzo!!!! - It can cause severe brain damage, seizures, coma's and could be fatal..!!  (believe me, I tried to c/t both and benzo's are a very powerful drug that do require a person to taper, contrast to the opiates!!!
