Doctor Accused me of Selling Drugs...

Im not too sure as to where to put this, But I suppose it would be in here. I recently posted a topic about the Chronic head pain I get and my Doctor who referred me to a pain clinic.

Well; Come to find out the, Pain Clinic doesn't take my Insurance, So I went to the doctor for a psychical and to talk about my prescription/pain.  Well we had a nice talk and such and he told me about all the different things (I asked for Gabapenton to see if that would work for my headaches because i've read that the off label use for headaches works well. So He gave me that and my normal script for Norco 10/325. We were talking and I was telling him how I plan on going to med school and such, and I said about it being difficult to pay for, and he said something about selling my prescription to pay my way through Med school. I assumed he was joking cause I just laughed and he was telling me how much they go for in the street. (He sais $10 a pill?) I dunno, I only sell them to myself.

But anyway, My labs came back and he was reading over them and said my Liver enzymes were elevated; I asked him what that meant, and he said nothing. But I know that the AST or the ALT being elevated could mean numerous things. But I assumed he knew better and what not. So no big deal. Anyway, I left his office with my 2 scripts.

Well I come home and head to bed cause my head was killing me and I was up all night so I decided a wee lil nap would be nice. I wake up around 8 at night and my mom wakes me up and tells me that my doctor called and he said that "I'm a no good addict with a problem, or that im selling my pain pills and that i had better find a new doctor, And that he is telling the insurance company not to fill those prescriptions anymore."

So I get woken up and told this and it just stunned me. Why in the world would he do that? The only person I sell them to is myself. Is he even allowed to do that, Let alone talk to someone else about my personal information.

Is there other drs in this practice?? And if so does he work under someone. Im thinking that when those lab results came back someone saw that ur liver enzimes were up and shouldnt have given u that scrip he shouldve switched it to something that doesnt effect the liver. He probably blamed u to save his own butt. If it makes u feel any better like my friend bladerunner would say - lots of us have been fired from our drs. Mayb this is a sign u need to get off those pills :)

I think I would have had a hard time stopping myself from walking into his office and hanging his *** on the wall. That's just my opinion.

I have a question, I was seeing a dr for my chronic pain and I did nto like him.  I started seeing a different person becasue he was much more understanding.  Now there was an overlap of about a week or os between dr.  It seems that when my first dr found out he had a freak attack.  What I was wondering is can he call or contact my new dr and tell him something about me like I am abusing drugs or something like that.  Or is this against HIPPA all the help that you can give me would be greatly appreciated.  I have an appointment with the new dr in a day or two but I am not going to go if there might be a problem

I went through an issue kinda similar to that with a pharmacist, and I found out that yes they can talk to each other.  Meaning the doctor, pharmacist, and insurance company.  But your doctor had no right giving that information to your mother.  That violated the patient/doctor priviledge.

Gabapentin affects chemicals and nerves in the body that are involved in the cause of seizures and some types of pain. The exact way that it works is unknown. Usually prescribed to treat some certain types of seizures. Its also known as Neurontin.

I just recently got done speaking with some other physicians on the phone and my doctor didn't have hospital privileges at the local hospital (I was informed they didn't want the privileges) But now I just learned their privileges were revoked from the hospitals administration. Seems to me this "doctor" isn't exactly too good. Slandering people and speaking outside of Doctor patient confidentiality; and so on. I wonder what else I will learn. Thanks for the replies again though. Appreciate it.

Oh yeah, Hes just some Young twerp.

IF THE PATIENT IS UNDERAGE AND UNDER THE MOTHERS INSURANCE, SHE IS PAYING FOR THE INSURANCE, YES THEY CAN TALK TO HER, THATS HOW MY PARENTS FIRST FOUND OUT I WAS USING DRUGS, WHEN I WAS 17.

I posted this in the other topic but ill just copy and paste it cause im lazy and so on. Plus, Thanks heaps for the replies, means heaps to me to know that not everyone in this world is 100% ignorant.

Well about my insurance, that goes to show a few more comical points behind it. First of all, Im under my Fathers Insurance until Im 21 (not my mums; Her name isnt on it), (He works for the Sheriffs Dept.) and Im 19 now. I just don't understand, I never even asked for the pills to begin with, I mean this guy hands out pills like its nothing, Even antibiotics like a moron. "Got a cold eh? Here; Have some Penicillin" I told him about my head when i first started to get them and I tried so many other things it was just amazing. I for one hate pills, Just because I've seen alot of people loose control on them because they take over your life. And now, im getting screwed over in 2 ways.

First he prescribed them to me on his own whim. I didnt ask for them. If there was something else out there that would work and not have stupid side effects like constipation then, hey, that'd be wonderful. Buuuut with my poor luck there isnt, I got my script for the Norco today but im not taking till 4 days from now to see if the Gabapenton works. Fingers annnnd toes crossed but I prolly wont be surprised.

But not only does he give me such a strong narcotic; he thereafter decided to cut me off without weening me off, which is complete bullshit.

So the alternative is, goto another doctor and tell them my situation (Funny he calls me an addict or claims im selling them, when he wants to send me to a pain clinic) Buuut If i goto another Doctor and they understand, My insurance wont cover it cause he has to tell the Insurance some bullshit. And in all honesty, Im scared, because it hurts so bad. It can honestly rate anywhere on the pain scale and I know people usually over exaggerate how bad their pain is, but I wont label it a number, It honestly just stops me from moving or talking. I try to ask someone to get me a cold wash cloth and..the words just will not come out. And now im gonna hafta deal with that and I dont know what to do. Not only did he say something about me to my mother, but; When I was in his office he said things about my mom and how he prescribes her Valium. (My dad had prostate cancer and got surgery, so she was stressed like crazy, so he gave her that; 10mg) Stupid For that much, But im not signed to know anything about her medicine or anything else, and he tells me in the office that shes addicted to it. Which I know shes not; cause she hardly ever takes it. I dont know what to do, His idiotic mindset is just leading me back to laying in bed endlessly scared to move cause it might hurt.

I am not sure if you are still on, but I thought I would respond to you because I am a medical records specialist, which requires me to know a lot about the privacy laws that occuerd on April 3, 2002, 2003 or 2004. I can't remember the year. You being under your dad's insurance doesn't necessarily give him the right to you info. You would have had to sign a consent that specifically named your dad. Now, the consent you signed at first, probably gives him the right to speak with your insurance and pharmacy, but not necissarily dad. If he is talking to your mom about it, he is under HIPPA violation. That IS a criminal offense and could be fined up to $30,000! If he talks with you about your moms issues then he needs to be reminded of the law! I am sure when he knows that you know your and your mom's rights, he will shut that **** up! Some of the older drs. are old school and can't get used to the law, but that doesn't make it any less aginst the law. I am thinking you need another dr. anyway. He is probably not going to talk with the insurance in depth about these things. He may call about scripts but he is not going to spend his time on the phone. It takes 2 days to get a call-back and then it is from the nurse! He won't smudge your name. Get a different doc. Be up front to start with. Tell him what you were dealing with. Get your records from this other doc and go through them with the newbie and show him how he was throwing pills at you! It will be apparent to a good doc. Don't worry! What is Gabapenton? Lyrica?

My doctor at the hospital told my mom my tox results right in front of me.
I told him to leave the room and then reported him for HIPPA act violations.
We settled out of court for $10 grand........

NO HE IS NOT ALLOWED TO TALK TO ANYONE ABOUT YOU AND YOUR MED. HISTORY EXCEPT FOR THE FOLLOWING REASONS.  1. IF YOU ARE UNDERAGE AND 2. IF IT'S YOUR PARENTS INSURANCE AND YOU ARE UNDER IT.  THEN BY LAW HE CAN TALK TO YOUR MOTHER ABOUT IT.  I AM SORRY THIS HAPPENED.
