Does Anybody Search First?

Not meaning to get on anyone's case, but I see many of the same questions asked over and over. Do people ever search the site or Google for answers to their questions before posting?

There's a ton of info already here that takes very little effort to find.

Respectfully,

Jas.

You are 100% right.   Its that personal touch....What the hell good is a database, when a person is seeking a good heart.  And you have a good good one...Excellent.

Thank goodness that everyone else has the approach to ask away and they will be glad to answer.    That is where the support and help comes from, real questions being written out with real answers being directed at you.

All of these people here have been the crux of my success and if you would have told me to do a search instead of asking questions  on my first day here, I would have left and probably failed at my attempt.     You should be thankful there are so many here willing to take the time to answer and keep tabs on everyone.............nobody is asking you to be a part of anything so why bother inserting yourself?

Thanks to all the wonderful help here................the real, day to day help that you all know we are desperate for,

Karen

..listen buddy, i was thinkin.  if you are on this board, you probably need and/or want help or support just like everybody else.

if you've been on since 2003, you've gotten more than enuf "technical" information on what you need to know about the addiction.  so that leads to the question of, why would you stay on the forum?  why post?

the reason i am guessing is the same reason everybody else is here. to feel you are not alone in this fight, to feel people care, and to know there are others like you out there.  for support.

if you just need "technical info" about it you could google it..

so, imma guessing you're here for the same reasons we all are.  if not, more so since ya been on so long.  so stay on board, quit being a cranky pants, don't judge and join the team... :)

take care,
mj

You guys are so awesome!  I just love the way you stick up for each other and this site!  It makes me feel so happy to be here and to be a part of it!  It's funny - this started out such a grumpy post --- but somehow it made me feel better about the whole thing!  I can't thank you guys enough for the help and support that you've given me!

almost all the questions I've ask here I knew part or all of the answer and definately knew how to search for it. I came here because I lurked for a while and saw the friendships formed. That why I post. What a nerd spoiling the punch you are. Why so angry? Jeesh some ppl.

I dont think it is so much reading old post that we are looking for but someone to talk to who is reallly here.We search and come up with a person who no longer comes here. Also maybe there are updates and latest information on what really  helps. Ruthie

That was not why it was shut down. We have plenty of space. If people want to post, they are encouraged to. If they'd like to use the search engine and research on their own in more depth, they are welcome to as well.

Thank you for the suggestion, but we are ok with both techniques and encourage either of them.

I joined this site back in 2003. The addiction forum was shut down because it was taking up most of the server space. I'd hate to see that happen again.

Sorry if I seem rude.

and if you have nothing nice to say then don't say anything.  you ARE rude..."typical in an addiction forum?"  we are OBVIOUSLY not thinking about just ourselves since many people sit here and read/answer/comment.

then just search so we don't have to read YOUR posts.  this is more of a community atmosphere and people are more than welcome to post their questions!!!  it's because they need help and maybe don't see all the features of the site at first.

Let me just add that you are a very rude person.

Apparently not to many... About 60 pages in the last month alone. Kinda makes it difficult to follow if you ask a question and have to go back several pages to find an answer. Seems like common sense to do a quick search rather than ask something that was asked 10 minutes ago.

No skin off my teeth. I guess it's typical in an addiction forum that a lot of people will think only about their own problems without considering how it affects others...

You do not sound like a very nice person.  Why are you here?  You seem to have a real chip on your shoulder about something.  If you do not like reading the posts here, nobody is forcing you to stick around.

Well, somebody's paying for it. And maybe if people did a search first, you wouldn't have to search through hundreds of posts.

I would think that it is a way to people just to talk to each other sometimes - they usually do not just want the answer to a question, most people want a little conversation and support.  But, by all means, if you prefer to google or search for answers to your questions, that is your option.

I think sometimes asking a question is a new persons way of asking for help.. sometimes people don't wanna come out and tell their whole story..

That's why I put everything on my profile page. Keeps me from having to cut and paste or type it out every time.

well since it's not hurting anyone, it's not a problem. It's kinda a pain to search through the hundreds of posts..
