Does anyone know if people are getting addicted to cornstarch?
I was reading the mothball addiction, how sad, within the string someone said they were also eating cornstarch. I've heard of a girl who ended up in the hospital because all she wanted to do is eat cornstarch. I feel a drug is a drug and there's no shame no matter what you're addicted to. I'm glad this site is here to help us. Tram addict.
A lot of women who are addicted to cornstarch seem to be anemic. Something having to do with an iron deficiency and pica especially prevalent within the black African American women. Inner city women have also eaten spray starch. All this having to do with some mineral deficiencies. the women I know was indeed a Black American Women. I'm not making fun at all and I'm not at ALL prejudice, my x-bf is black. that's how I found out about this. He said his x-girl friend was in the hospital due to only wanting to eat cornstarch. That was months ago. It only rang a bell when I read it again here.
once i learned that some people kill themselves by drinking enormous amounts of water..i can not think of nothing less harmless than water ! we need it to live, the planet need it .....so after the water addiction, i can believe our minds can be addicted to whatever....
I am a African American female and I am fighting a addiction to cornstarch right now , the cravings are aweful, I never thought it would be this hard to stop something. I don't drink, or smoke or do drugs but this is like a drug for me. If I get upset I will eat it, if I'm hungry I will eat it and that will keep full for a while. When I finish a meal I want cornstarch just like people that smoke. I use to eat a spoon sometimes as a kid just for fun it was good but that was like maybe 5 times a year, my mother & granny kept it for cooking so I didn't eat it to often. But as an adult the past 2 years I have eaten box after box. I didn't want my family to see me especially my kids so I would hide it in the closet and sneak it in the bathroom or keep it in my car. It's bad and I was very judgemental toward people that smoke, drink & do drugs. But never again because it's hard to stop doing something that you think makes you feel better, that you enjoy and that your body craves. Jesus be my strength. I have almost 30 days clean!
Congrats on your 30 days..that is wonderful. I hope you are getting counseling to find out the origin of your addiction so that you can help to prevent a relapse.
Also, please note that this is an old post. If you go to the top of this page you will see a green Post A Question button, hit that and follow the instructions. That way you can start your own post and members can get to know you. There is a lot of good support here so hope to see you in the forum.
Just curious, what's the attraction in eating cornstarch. I've used it as a thickening agent when cooking but never heard of eating it straight out of the box. Does it settle the stomache or something? Does it taste good?
i'm 21 yrs of age and I started eating cornstarch at a very young age however it was not available to me in large quantities so i made do but as i got older and enter into my teenage years my cravings for it got stronger, the only difference is that now i had money to support my habbit. I remember going through two boxes a week at a time now i'm up to a box a day. I've noticed that when ever iI stress or have a bad day I need to have it, at one point my mom caught me eating it and she went as far as to forbid me from eating it again but all that did was made me want it even more and it's been 3yrs since she thought i stopped but i've been hidding them in places she wouldn't look like the printer, at friends houses, i even sleep with some under my pillow ever night. Recently I had to have a blood transfussion and spend a few weeks in the hospital and as bad as it was all i could think about is cornstarch, i can go up to a week without eating anything but cornstarch and i think i have a very serious problem
I eat it!I luv it!Don't care if anybody thinks it's strange.I eat a good diet of veggies & fruits.I'm also an african american female.I started craving it after i developed heavy irregular bleeding.I've bin eaten cornstarch for 6 yrs.Sometimes I eat a box a day r every other day.
I'm an african american girl too, and i'm 17, and i have a corn starch addiction too ! i dont know how it started. when i was a kid i used to eat powdered clay i used to find in my house, and chalk! And ever since i tasted cornstarch ive been addicted to it. My family knows, and they always try and hide it from me, but i go out of my way to find it and it takes me about 5 days to finish one box, but i eat it everyday that i have a box. Whenever i have extra money, i buy a box and keep it under my bed. i dont know why im so addicted, i think i have pica. But its nice to know other people are addicted to it to. I just want to let some of you know that it doesnt really taste ''good'' or give you a rush, i dont know why makes everyone else addicted to it, but im addicted to it because of the chalky aftertaste ..
I have been eating cornstarch for almost 18 yrs. I have had 3 blood transfusions over those 18 yrs. I needed more than that, but just didn't always go to the doctor. I started during my pregnancy almost 18 yrs ago. and just never completely stopped. It is very difficult. I have paused for a couple of months after recieving each transfusion, but seemed to go back to it. I am anemic because of heavy bleeding during my menstrual cycle. It seems to like a revolving cycle. I am 37 years old and I will keep not give up the fight.
I started eating argo laundry starch when I was a little girl. I remember it came in a dark blue box and it was in rock form. My Mother use to eat it and I think she got the habbit from my Father's Mom. My mom would give me my sister and my bother a few rocks at time as a treat and I loved it, The tastes had me hooked right away. Then after a while Argo took that form of the laundry starch off the market because people were eating it and it was bad for them. So My Mother stopped and I didn't think about it for years.
When I became a team I went ti live with my Paternal Grandmother and even though she had diabetes she ate argo corn starch every day. So one day I tried it and was imediately hooked.
Though I did miss the rock form this was still as tasty. I was eating a box every other day. I loved everything about it. The taste of it is unique there is nothing in the world that has that flavor. It kind of starts out just dry and plain and then towards the end just before you swallow it there's this sweetness to it. It's thick so it's so filling. I like the drying texture in my mouth. I like to fill the way it goes down my throat. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. After I've eaten it it's like a just ate the best comfort food ever. If I'm stressed, angry, or sad it relaxes me. I want to eat it more then food now.
I had stopped for a few years but here I am again eating it every day. The only thing id it makes you gain sooooooo much weight. And I guess it should it's like eating potatoes, rice, cake, and sugar all day every day. So be careful.
Hi, I don't know if am addicted to cornstarch because I don't necessarily eat it. I simply spit it out once it gets watery... I see this as a more healthier alternative. Yes, a little of it does get swallowed but way less than if you were to just swallow a whole spoonful. I run through one box every month and half or so, and when I did a blood test for a medical form I found out I had very low iron. What attracts me to the corn starch is the texture when it goes in your mouth. It's dry and it gets crunchy once you start to chew. That's my most favorite part, then the saliva would get to it and the crunchy texture would go away and I'll spit it out. The taste plays a small part in it as well, even when I just take a spoon and stir and smell it it makes my mouth water.
I got hooked on cornstarch because I first began eating baby powder, but after a while I stopped because I thought I would get poisoned eventually if eaten in large amounts and so frequently. It was so bad, when i went by my aunt and cousin I would go n there kids room and search for their baby powder and go in the bathroom to get a huge mouth full , to chew it up and to spit it out and wash my mouth out so no one will see any white stuff around my mouth. Mt family know I eat it, but am not sure if they know how serious it is because I just keep it in the cupboard and have a smaller container I transfer it to to keep in my room or in my bathroom. I eat it when stressed or just craving the crunch, i also chew alot of ice
I been addicted to cornstarch since I was 5 yrs old...My mother used to eat it (Argo) I went behind her back one day and tried it from that day on I was hook..When she found out I was eating cornstarch she forbidden me not to eat, I even use to beg her to buy me a box and she was like no it’s not health so from the time I was like 12 I use to basically steal hers. Then around 13 I got clever about getting my own box... I used to go over my grandma house and my cousin and I would go to the store I use to buy like 4 boxes at a time with my allowance and hide it from my mother...One day while she was going through my room to pick up laundry she found like 20 empty boxes underneath my bed, and also some empty flour bags..I used to eat flour when I ran out of me stash of cornstarch. To prevent me from eating flour she finally gave in and started buying me cornstarch she told me she rather I eat cornstarch than flour. When Argo came out with the new container I quit eating that brand because Argo taste nasty now!!! I was so desperate to get Argo cornstarch in the old cardboard boxes that I went so far to Google search any companies that still sale it...Guess what? I found a company Webresturant.com and they sale it for .89 cent a box so now I order like 10 boxes at a time and get it ship to my house..That’s how bad my addiction is to cornstarch...It’s just crazy
