Dont Think Im Gonna Make It

Well, its day 4 and I had to go back to work today... it was beyond awful!!  Honestly, Im not sure if Im gonna make it!  Like many of you, i was prescribed the vicodin for back pain and let me tell you it is REALLY BAD now...  I cant determine if its just the pain of muscle cramping from no hydro in 4 days or if Im really in this much severe pain from my back problem..  I do know that if its the latter, there is no way that i can not ever take pain meds again!  If I knew that it would subside in a day or so maybe, but whewwwww...  Im trying my hardest to not give in !!!  Please pray for me!

ice it, heat it, stretch it, massage it....look inot the cause of the pain if u can..but trying to cover it up with narcotics is not the way to go..think about the reasons u quit..if u remember them which i am sure u do...write them down to remind urself....it was not all that great being an addict...if it was a barrel of laughs we would all still be there...hang tight...work may take ur mind off of things..sometimes being busy is good

That is truly inspirational - to have read your posts when you were at that corssroads, wanting to take something but finding the inner strength to stay clean, and now to read that you are 6 days clean - what an example. Well done!!

One thing I have learned from my numerous failed attempts - I never, ever wake up the next morning feeling glad that I gave in and took tablets the day before. Yet every time I do resist the urge to use, I wake up the next morning so very grateful that I am still clean.

Just keep going, just take it one day at a time and keep going. Yay!

extrmeski is right...having to go back to work on day 4 is the worst. I feel for you. You will soon hit a turning point. Try to believe what we are all telling you. YOU WILL FEEL BETTER BY THE END OF THE WORKWEEK AND HAVE A WEEKEND. It should get better before the weekend. You will really have to fight but know that you will not stay like this. Focus on getting through the week and if that's hard just focus on each day...they will addup to the whole week. Post for support. Let everyone help you. Hope your job is not too stressful. I always seem to need at least a week but others can go to work while detoxing.  Hope day 5 is easier. GBU, Corey

Congrats...you will see that in the next day or so, things will just get better...I have back pain, and during detox, my back hurt twice as much...But from reading here, i knew it was because of the pain meds...After a couple weeks, my back was soooo much better...I use OTC meds now and they work great....Like you said Bring on Day 5, you go girl...I promise it will be worth it...Just keep going..
good luck

Ok.. moment (or day!) of weakness here... it's 8 pm now on day 4 and i did NOT give in and take a hydro but I did take a fioricet for my pounding head with hopes that it would help my back pain too... It didn't!  Anyway, your support here is what is literally getting me through this cuz my hubby doesnt know that I quit taking the meds!  He just thinks that I've been awfully sick and grouchy lately..  I know that it helps to have family support but his first repsonse to "my back is killing me" is "did you take something for it?" and I really don't need that right now... He is trying to be helpful but he doesn't understand how much I hate this addiction and want to end it NOW!  He just doesn't want to see me in pain...  Anyway, just wanted to check in and let you all know that I just might make it through today.....  Bring on day 5!!!

I'm sorry you had to go back to work..Day 4 seems to be the worse day of all.  I'm not sure if it really is or by that time you are just sick of being sick.  Hang in there...

You can make it! It is as Avis said. Your body screams for more meds. Soon things will settle down. Muscle realxers and Ibuprofen really helps me.

I'm not a doc by any means, but for my pain, when it gets real bad, i take "cyclobenzaprine" ...non-addictive, helps with pain n knocks you out...not good for the day

oh donna, so many here have gone through the same thing.  chances are if you can get past the w/ds you will find the back pain is not as bad as you thought.   when your addiction wants to be feed it will make you think you are hurting worse than you are.  it really does get better.  can you get some muscle relaxers to help with the spasms?  you are so close...please dont give in now.  i know it is not easy but, you can do it.

it will go away this is your body screaming I want my fix . talk to your doctor about finding a muscle relaxer that will help.I would not worry about whether you will ever be able to take pain meds again now .try to stay focused on why you are doing this you are almost over the hump of the physical.Hang in there .
