Dr red flagged

My rheumotoligists has been subscribing pain medication for over 10 years. Last march I had a migraine(after hours & had already tried my migraine medication. So went to hospital 3 times before it went away. I was out of it.  The dr handed my husband a script & took me home then filled it.   It was for a small amount but it was a narcotic.  After this happened 2 mis later went to see dr & he checked chart & wouldn't refill my pain med.  I'm sure he has red flagged me & I never saw the script & my husband didn't know what it was for.  The dr has told me that we have a contract that I could get pain med only from him.  I never saw a contract & have never been dr shopping. I would like to know how I can get him to remove the flag. He has told me to take 3,000 mg of Tylenol per day.   I am opposed to it because I took methaltrexate & had to have liver biopsy 10 yrs ago.   This doesn't seem fair.  Help!

When I'm having a migraine I am in so much pain that I just want to go home & go to sleep.  They did cat sscn & spinal tap so I didn't notice what the dr gave my husband   I went to see this dr last week doubled over with stomach cramps. I told him I had already call to have a colonestopesy but he wanted to do a cat scan first.  That was Thursday & so far the order has not been called in yet.  Have considered ER but would rather just have it ordered so I don't pay for ER

I know it seems like I'm leaving something out but I never remember signing a contract with the dr.   I am considering going to pain management.  I met with dr and asked why didn't I have a copy of it to take out if town, etc.   I have migraine headaches & maybe some dr's don't realize the severity of them.  But I've never been given the same drugs for that & RA. I was bringing my husband home from KS after having a liver transplant.  I was so sick the half way I had to let him drive.  I spoke to. Another nurse & she explained that dr are cutting back esp in OK. But they had patient call in for early refil & she was out & told the dr the reason.   She is going to get refill next month.   I certainly haven't been handing my pain Meds out!   The nurse said I'm not red flagged anywhere on my chart.

you were flagged by the hospital on your PMP (prescription management profile) that they pull when you keep revisiting the hospital and looks like your doctor was notified. The only other way to be flagged is by the DEA or doctor himself for doctor shopping and this all goes into your PMP which can be pulled by any medical office. No way to remove it.

I've been pretty messed up but was always, always aware of what I'd been prescribed. Sorry, but your story doesn't ring true. Is there something you're leaving out? I don't see why a doctor would cause you trouble if things happened as you claim.

i am not a fan of across the board red flagging because there are honest situations where people screw up.  it could be the way you typed it or it is because something is just missing in your story.  if you told the doctor exactly what you typed, then i can understand why.
you have to be BRUTALLY honest with the prescribing doctor.
you could possibly consult an attorney and ask if there is anyway to get that off your record (i don't think there is) or go talk to that doctor who red flagged you and be honest with him.  there is a small chance they would remove the flag and refuse to prescribe.   at least then, you can find another doctor.
sometimes, explaining the situation to the new doctor will convince them it was a knee jerk reaction by your doctor.
since it was a rheumotoligist's who had been prescribing for you for 10 yrs, that will be a HUGE issue for any new doctor.  they will assume you did something really bad to make them put that there.
i had to tell my neighbor today to rip up his script from the ER and call his pain management doctor and tell them that a script was written, but you ripped it up and will NOT be attempting to fill it or he would have violated his contract.   he was so out of it (bad tooth infection) that he could not think straight.

Does it state in your contract that your doctor must be notified if you are in the ER and need pain meds?

A few questions...

How could you not know what you were prescribed?  Even if your husband got it filled for you, you would have had it at home.  I know it's sometimes unfortunate, but these pain clinics DO spell out the rules quite fervently, and many of them have a no tolerance policy for that kind of stuff.  Ideally, ANY change in medication should have been reported to the pain clinic ASAP.  Usually in that case, they will work with you.  The bottom line is, you broke the contract YOU agreed to abide by, so I doubt there is anything that can be done at this point.  Are you saying you don't recall signing a contract?

As for not knowing what you were prescribed, can't you call the pharmacy and ask?

While I can understand that you weren't intentionally setting out to deceive, you did break the rules, hence the consequences.  You could try to go in and talk to him, and explain the situation, but I really wouldn't get your hopes up if I were you.  If you truly don't recall signing a contract, maybe you could ask to see it, and see if maybe they dropped the ball there.  Usually though, pain clinics are pretty forthcoming about that.

Very best to you, hope it all works out.
