Drug abusers are selfish people!

Doctors in my state of Georgia are now refusing to prescribe oxycontin because of all the abuse.  I have a chronic pain condition and can no longer get oxy.

All of you who have abused the drug severely by snorting it, buying it on the street, etc have made life hell for people such as me who actually need a sustained release pain med.  You took a good drug and abused it for your own selfish means.  Now doctors won't prescribe it.

Do you ever think that your actions will hurt other people? I guess not!  I have had people actually steal my oxy from me knowing I have terminal cancer.  Get a life people!

Your frustration is misplaced here. Research suggests most that are addicted to pain meds as in the one you've discussed start from a legitimate injury and need for the medication. But in the case of OxyContin, please be reminded that so many doctor's over prescribe this medication. My cousin & I had the same back surgery few yrs back. My dr gave me darvocet, his dr gave him Oxycontin. 6 weeks later I was stepped down to Motrin 800...he wasn't. His dr kept him on Oxy for several months. He was in pain. Just as I was. But he took what his dr Rx because he was experiencing pain and his dr told him to take it (which I think is mal practice).  The meds were manufacturing more pain. So when he was stepped down, his body was so.dependent on it, he had awful w/d which started his addiction.
That wasn't selfish on his part, but rather neglect, mal practice on his dr's error. My doctor told me.that he would have never put me on OxyContin bc it wasn't indicated for the type of surgery that I had had.
I had a friend that is a pharmacist and she ijs constantly at odds w this particular dr office bc she says he creates addicts and I agree.  
Addicts have a legitimate diagnosis/disease. We are on this site to help each other kick this awful condition. We are here by choice. Meaning, we recognize we have a problem and are desperately trying to rectify the issue in our respective lives and help others in the process. If you are angry, frustrated etc. It's understandable. But please, the users on this board are hard enough on them selves. We struggle and have various set backs. Please express your anger/frustration on an appropriate board. Your comments are counter productive to what we are trying to do here. & being that and.being that you think all addicts are selfish, seems as though you'd support a group of addicts that are desperately trying to kick the habit.
Additionally, I too am a Ga resident. Write your congressmen. Contact your political representatives, vent your frustration/anger to them.

In regards to Doctors not prescribing Pain Meds for the people who really need it to manage and have some kind of Quality of Life. The Guy is right. the Doctors are very ignorant when determining who needs it or who is giving a BS story so they can get high. i have more than enough documentation stating all my ailments etc. They have figured its just easier to tell everyone, regardless of their condition "NO I DON'T RIGHT FOR PAIN". or they will refer you to Pain Management sometime before you die. I have been struggling since I got dropped onto a Lousy HMO. Now you know what you can do is.. Spend your SSI check or whatever to a Pain Doctor that only takes cash and you will be taken care of. But if that Dr. that I pay cash to will help me with my pain, why can't one of these Un-Educated Doctors on these HMO's do the same. I can't afford it, but I can't stand the pain either. It is very Frustrating..I am sick about it. Why can they tell who really has Pain and who is giving a Story?? They went to College for how long? And the degrees they have mean nothing then.. I don't understand either.. Somebody needs to do something about this though.. It's Chicken-S--t behavior!

I understand your frustration...but i think its important to know that i suffered extremely horrible pain as a child and became addicted to the drug the dr gave me to relieve the pain. Many people here accidently became addicts.

I am sorry that they would do that to you, though. They actually changed the way oxycontin is made so people cant do certain things with it and ive heard from more than a few chronic pain patients that it simply doesnt work the same. This is sad that they sacrifice efficiency of a drug to prevent abuse. I dont think efficiency of a drug or prescribing of a drug should ever be altered for those who truly need it just because there are those who abuse it. The sad reality is that it happens, though...and in vain because addicts will always find a way around these firewalls anyway.

This doesnt make sense to me.  Usually with someone who has terminal cancer the doctors will make you comfortable.  I hope you can find a different doctor.  How are they treating your chronic pain?

HI Doctor have several reasons for cutting somebody off from pain meds if they feel you are becoming dependent on them is one reason if it is acting adversely with your health or health condition they will cut you off.....I would ask the doctor why they are cutting you off and dont get defencive about there answer its often for your own good just read some of the horror storys on this forum I was a classic example of over prescribed and it was hell getting off them knowing what I know today I never would have let them put me on some of the stuff they had me on this might just be one of those gift horses that you dont realize yet .....you can always get a second opinion
when I was at it I had MRIs I could take anywhere and ask for just about anything and get it there comes a time you have to make a choice to live in a fog or to live life again most of our members including myself have found we do better without the narcotics ....I was taking 150mg of methadone for pain control today im in less pain then when I was on the methadone you need to give your body a chace to feel better you will go threw rebound pain but once threw it your body will start to build up endorphins on its own again and you will find things like 800mg ibuprophine will actually work once your off the narcotics your body will crave the narcotic and even create pain to get it its a viscous cycle...Iknow what its like to live with chronic pain I did for 10yrs I only wished I got off all that crap yrs b/4 I actually did.....I wish you all the best in your recovery good luck and God bless.......Gnarly

I agree with Vicki too...Something is up with your doctor. Why the heck would anyone take that away from you if you have termial cancer? It makes no sense. Maybe you should find someone else.

I hear your anger and frustration. People who are abuse drugs are addicts, they also have a disease. I think it's important to be compassionate for all who suffer from illness, whether it be physical or mental.
Can Ypu switch drs?

Oh and I must a lot of people are given these meds by a Dr not knowing there whole life is fixing to change these medicines are so addictive and then u realize it but BAM ur hooked....and its hard to correct what u were given by ur Dr.....good luck to u...I hope u find a Dr to help u...

Personally, I have never taken oxycontin. Not ever!
