Dutchess - quick question???

Dutchess - quick question???

I have a feeling you've read around and know my "mind" at this time.  My question does deal with that, though it won't affect my decision either way.  Im just curious and I feel sure you will know.

I know if you take Suboxone/Subtex while still "on" an opiate it will cause full w/d, but what about the other way around.  I thought if you take an opiate after taking suboxone (within time) that it would just lesson the effects of that opiate - not send one into w/d.  Is that right - or am I totally confused.  I thought the med that is in Suboxone - the naloxone (sp) would only harm if it was injected or snorted.

WOuld you mind clearing this up for me - I really just want to know, for knowledge sake, b/c I thought I had read that somewhere.  I don't want to be spouting off something that isn't true.

thank you very much for ALL OF YOUR HELP THIS WEEK.  Im going to send you an email tonight about my "issues"

thanks again,

love, Tracy

Hey! I had know idea I was that much of a help, it's so good to hear that I have helped though;) Anyhow, you're on the right track. Suboxone is buprenorphine with naloxone. The naloxone blocks the effects of opiates which is what sends you into withdrawal and prevents you from getting high if you take opiates while it is in your system. Just think of your receptors as little holes that are being plugged by the naloxone, i you then take oxy's or vicodin etc. the opiate will not be able to bind to the receptors because "the holes" are filled by the naloxone so the opiates cannot have an effect. (though it is NOT impossible to get "high" while on subutex or suboxone)

Subutex is just buprenorphine, (no naloxone.) This is a good way to start detox or even end a taper, that way you avoid a potentially dangerous withdrawal syndrome. Once the opiates are out of your system and you are past the withdrawal phase you start suboxone.

I hope this answers your question, let me know how everything is. I wrote you back earlier. I will check my e-mail again when I get up. Please let me know if you need anything.

xoxo- Dutchess

Even when you don't write to me I read others and it is always (up to this point, anyway) been something that relates to me as well.  Not to mention, all the questions you have answered for me.  I know you are busy, but just want u to know that your time here is appreciated.  It is nice to have someone from the "field" to explain that side of things.   So, thank you again and that's what I thought.  Though it really doesn't matter now b/c I think that I have made the right decision.  I just had a weak moment but when push came to shove I still overcame, and I think THAT SAYS ALOT!!!

Have a great weekend, I will talk to you soon.

love, tracy
