Elavil and Morphine

Elavil and Morphine

Hi..I'm new here and hoping that someone might be able to answer this question. Can Elavil be used as an effective means to releive morphine withdrawl (withdrawal) symtoms (symptoms)? I'm about to go down that road and I know the agony of withdrawl (withdrawal) from morphine and don't want to go through it again...or at least as bad as it was before. I have decreased my morphine intake from 150mg a day down to 90mg within two days. tomorrow i'm shooting for only 30mg, but know that I will still go through withdrawl (withdrawal), as I wont be taking any more after that 30mg in the morning. A rather fast draw down, I know, but I had no choice. however, I have been told that small dosages of Elavil will help my withdrawl (withdrawal). can anybody confirm this? thanks.

I have never heard of Elvail but hopefully there will be some others on tonight that will probably know about it. There are a lot of people here with some really great knowledge. I think it's just slow in here tonight cause of Christmas.

Thanks for that. Yes, it's most likely Christmas making it slow, but I'll check in tomorrow as well to see. Merry Christmas to you and thanks

Hi,
In answer to your question. Elavil is a tricyclic antidepressant. Your Dr may want to give you asome type of benzodiazapine concurrently with elavil to alleviate the anxiousness associated with withdrawal. I have never heard of Elavil ALONE being used to treat withdrawal symptoms.
Elavil is one of the older antidrepressants.
QUESTION: Is your Dr. an Addiction Specialist?
Has he mentioned Suboxone to treat the Withdrawal Syndrome?
You may want to mention this to him as I know of no use for Elavail  other than for depression.

I take Elavil and it helps numbing, as a matter of fact if you bite into a pill it will numb your tongue.

I increased my doseage coming off Narcotics but it really did not help.

I can say that it does help pain and sleep, I have to take 100mg to feel an effect. I had a minor 2 month addiction with Lortab but have been off for a few weeks now.

The withdrawal was still painful for a few days. I drank alcohol and took Elavil which is not a good mix but nothing helped the withdrawals. I also took muscle relaxer Robaxena and 800mg Advil but pain was unbearable a few days... I got over my symptoms totally in less then a week.

If you have a bad addiction it can take 1-2 weeks, the worse being 3-4 days.... I think the Alcohol just delayed the pain and made it last longer the next day...

You can try and take Elavil, it can't hurt.
