Elavil withdrawl

I was on Elavil for a period of a month-25mg a day for problems with my bowel movements.Elavil helped - but did not help the burning stomach I was experiencing.  My doctor told me to slowly taper of the Elavil after a month of taking it.  When I asked what that meant, he said to take one every other day for a week or so and then go down from there.So, I did just that - I took one every other day for a week, then one every two days for a week, and then I stopped.4 days later, I woke up to severe nausea which has continued for 3 days straight.I am wondering if this is caused by stopping the Elavil.  Did I stop it too suddenly?  What can be done to make the nausea go away now?I have called my doctor several times, but he never returns my calls.  I am especially concerned about continuing Elavil because 2 weeks after being on it, I developed a pretty bad urinary tract infection, then 1 month later, the infection came back again.  I went to my gynecologist on Wed (the first day of nausea) who said I had the infection.  Do those types of infections cause nausea this bad?  Is it something with my kidney's?  One other important note - I hadn't been drinking alcohol for several months due to my stomach burning and an episode of severe nausea after drinking that started my burning.  When I started weening off Elavil, I tried a little red wine and, although my stomach burned, I felt fine. The night before I felt nauseous, I had a glass of red wine, and off the Elavil, I was pleased to notice that my stomach did not burn - I did burp a lot though.  Could the wine be the cause?

Bowel problems will cause nausea and I have had nausea with my urinary tract infections before too. Hope you get to feeling better.
