Employee drug testing coming up...

Employee drug testing coming up...

I anticipate possibly being hired on by my employer and I currently take 30mg of Methadone a day.  My question is will that show up on a drug test?  Will it show up as an opiate?  I was recently prescribed cough syrup with codeine and a couple of weeks ago vicodin; can I just show them those prescriptions before I take the drug test to explain a possible positive opiate result?  Please share your experience and/or thoughts.......

Hello and Welcome!

Yup, it is going to show. I do not know for sure if they can tell it is methadone specifically though. I guess you can try and lie your way through it with the cough syrup. Not trying to be harsh, but if I were that employer, I would think twice about hiring someone who tested positive for anything. I would have to really consider what I was in for, for many reasons.

May I also ask why you are taking the methadone? If you care to share.

Good luck to you and thanks for the post.

THE answer is YES. I have been on meth at different times, as you now a **** test is required each and every time the doc writes you a new prescription. I was reported to the D>O>T> as my tast showed at one point cocaine. IM not proud of that but its a fact.THE employer will wonder about the meth, unfortionately meth has a stigma i.e. Heroin Junkie. Possibly get the doc to write a letter explaining that you are a chronic pain patient and require a Small dose of methadone 30mgs, or Try to kick the meth, but depending on the test date that might be impossible. Get back to me on this topic johnnykelly

There are different drug tests that can test for opiates or opiates and methadone sepaerately. Some tests also check if the urine sample has been tampered with too. Unless you know which test the employer will use, it may be best to let them know and show proof them being prescribed that way the employer will have better information about you as a person having the integrety to be open and honest with them thus,  able to make a more informed decision about hiring you.
