Fentanyl/Duragesic HELL, please help

by j1959, Sep 14, 2008 10:42AM
I had a terrible car accident in October 2003 which resulted in 2 spinal fusion surgeries C56, 67, and a shoulder surgery, plus a broken leg.  The pain problems were from the spinal stuff and shoulder.  The docs ended up putting me on the patches after oxycontin and percocet failed to control the horrible pain I was in, an I mean CONSTANT PAIN.  I have been on it ever since, and it has changed the person I was.  I decided to come off the patch at the beginning of this year, and started tapering down from 50mcg patches in March or so, and in the first week of September, I was "patch-free".  I have been in Hell ever since..
The pain is unbearable.  Not only does my back and shoulder hurt like it did before, but now I also hurt on the other side of my back for some unknown reason.  I also have intense pain all over my body which I recognize as typical withdrawal pain.  It is starting to subside somewhat but even my teeth hurt!!!  I have the willie-nillies in my legs so sleep is a joke.  Even Ambien-CR doesn't do anything about that.  I have absolutely no energy, am totally depressed and life just seems to suck.  I have made an appointment with a new orthopedic doc to see if there is anything else to be done WITHOUT ANY OPIOIDS for me at this time.  I am writing this because the PAIN MANAGEMENT forum suggested that you guys might have some suggestions to get through these withdrawal symptoms and might be able to tell me how long it might last.  THIS ***** OUT LOUD!!!

If this is what life is like without pain medicine, I just don't know.  I am not an addictive personality, and I don't want drugs at all.  I just want my life back.  I did a search on "fentanyl withdrawal" before writing this post, and read that I should be out walking and that it would make me feel better.  I hardly have the strength to get up and go to the kitchen to get water at this point.  I am really grasping here folks.  Please help.  I appreciate it.  Really.

Welcome to this side =) Im not sure about patches but most pain pills are 5 to 7 days for the worst physical part to be over. Look at the right hand side and you will see the Thomas recipe it has all kinds of helpfull things to help you through this. Hot baths and walking does help i know it seems like climbing a mountain right now but it will help =) good luck and we are here if you need us
