Boy...what an interesting day at work.A sweet little 86 year old dear decided that she did not want to renew her fentanyl 25mcg patch and has been off it for 3 days. She wanted to have our delivery man also pick up her dilaudid because she did not want to take them amymore.
I thought that since she was already at day3,and had backup dilaudid that I would not try to convince her to reorder the patch, but I did convince her to take the dilaudud instead of the patch and taper that slowly.
I sent her some b12 1000mcg sub lingual, omegas, redoxon B which contains Vitc 1000mg,b vitamins and magnesium and told her to take them in water.
I asked her how she was feeling and she said her feet and body felt like they were burning.I warned her about withdrawal and she was determined.
She has some ativan to help her sleep and is taking tylenol for pain.
I told her to phone me anytime and I would help her through it.
I don't think she knew what she is in for and maybe in her innocence she may not struggle as much.I sure hope so
Hi Deb, I want you to know I was there....just 21 days ago today. If you click on my name you can see all of my posts. For me, it was different than some of the folks who comment that took pills orally. Fentanyl is extemely strong, it stays in your system for a long time as it is deposited into you fat cells, etc. That is the way I understand to have read it. I don't want to discourage you but for me, I just got better after day 18. Some days were brutal some were ok. What I did was worry about ME first and made no apologies. It is a fight for your life, literally. YOU come first right now. I will be here for you in any way I can. Please respond here on private message me if you like. You can do this. Trust me!!! Hot showers and epsom salt baths and plenty of clear fluids.
Thanks so much for the incouragement! It's good to know that I'm through most of the worst stuff now. I feel a little better right now, at least the chills have gone away, and the sitting on the edge of your seat as settled down a little. I'm so glad I found this place, talking to other people about this, that has actually been through it helps me a lot. I'm hoping so badly that I can get some sleep now, I'm so crabby and it isn't fair to my husband, thank god he is a good person. I think I've put him through hell these last couple of days, and he just does what ever he can to help me..Tomorrow will be day 5 being off the patch and hopefully it will be a better day for me. I would love to have a great valentines day with my husband, only time will tell.
Again I thank you all for taking the time to write to me.
Have a wonderful evening.
Like the folks above have said you're at the point where things will start to get better. Days 3 and 4 are the worst. After this things get incrementally better each day. The mornings for many people(myself included) are often the worst. Day 5 will be a little bit better, day 6 will be better than that day 7 even better still and by days 8,9,10 you'll be feeling way better. By days 11,12,13 you won't be feeling much at all. The last thing to come back to normal for most people is getting a solid nights sleep.
You can do it. You're on the fourth day and it begins getting better a little bit each day after this.
Be thankful that you still have your husband in your life. I, also, withdrew from fetanyl patches. It got to the point where I was wearing 3 75's at one time just for the high. And high they got me. The patches are stronger than almost anything except oxy's and morphine. The withdrawal is not too pretty. Sounds like you're going through the worst of it now. For me, I couldn't sleep and was chained to the bathroom. It's a rough withdrawal, but it does get better. Drink a lot of gatorade and take the time for yourself. You won't be good to anybody else anyway. I wish you the best during this period. Just remember, this too passes!
