Fentanyl and oxycodone abrupt withdrawl

Hello, I have been using prescription pain medication for about seven years or so.  It started when I broke my heal and because I was morbidly obese as well my doctor kept me on the and sence then, a gastric bypass, two separate hernia operation, one exporitory surgery of  my stomach bypass andt then, to top it off, one and a half years ago I had major back surgery.  Well, as one could imagine over the years my doses have turned from viodic, to oxycodone to fentanyl patches and oxycodone.  Now I have beeen taking 15 patches of 100 mcg of the patch and 300 5mg tabs of oxycodone because of supposed arthritis in my back..

Now I am wanting off of these meds for good,  My back pain still feels very real as I am now day 6 into my last patch and ocycodone pill.  I went to the ER two nights ago because I feet so bad coming off of those drugs. What can I do.  My wife is afraid I may hurt myself because I have been sleep walking, bumping in to thing and talk strange things in my sleep.  The ER doc gave me a little patch of clonidine. Does it work or not.  What ore my options?

I would try and work your way off the medication and stopping all at once will be dreadful and painful.

Boy you have been through the mill!  Everything you said in your posting reflects your inner strength!

I was on morphine and fentanyal for a couple years.  I am sure you are likely feeling some pretty horrific rebound pain during the taper down.  I know I did.  It should settle back. It is hard enough getting off the drugs alone but when the pain is still there it is indescribable.

Once you are off the Oxy & fentanyl and have a real baring of what your pain really is you have other non-opiate medications you can try.

Keep that inner strength pumping!!

I second - Clonidine works great.
