Hey..how are you doing?  I have been thinking about you and hoping you are feeling better.  My pill taking problems began with back problems, but I also have migraines.  Sometimes they were my excuse to get meds, but really I have relpax for headache pain.  That takes good care of them.  Can you take the tritiphan drugs:  immitrex, zomig, maxalt, relpax?  They work wonders for the migraines if you can take them.  That might help a little.  I have great fear of getting the big headache from stopping everything else. Oh well, enough about me...how are you.

Hi,

I tried a bunch of different meds for my migraines and then my old doc prescribed the fioricet with codeine and it was my miracle drug.  It helped my migraines so much.  I would get two or so migraines a week, it was horrible.  Unfortunately that was seven years ago!!!!!!!!!  I started taking them just when the migraines would start (the little wiggles I would see).  Popped a couple of these pills and I was good to go - they made me feel great.  Then I started taking them everyday because I liked the high.......the rest is history.  My current doctor said we will deal with the migraines once I get off these pills.  I have not had a migraine since starting this medication, but I am sure in the past 7 years they have come up with something for migraines that will work for me.  I take 2 in the AM, 2 in the PM and 2 in the evening.  Now I am just taking the 2 in am, 2 in pm, but feeling w/d evening cutting back my two.  I just need to be strong and I know I will adjust to the four.  I will try going to three in a few weeks and see what happens.  The problem is I always take two at a time, so what do I do - take 1, 1 and 1?

Thanks for checking in on me.  Where are you in the withdrawal process?

Having tapered myself I would recomend  taking 3 doses a day.. but less.. so instead of cutting those 2 out in the afternoon.. try 2 in am 1 in afternoon and 1 at night.. its still 4 a day.. spreading them out this soon is hard.. I would wait to drop a whole dose out til you are down to 1 pill three times a day.. Fioricet is are caps right?? so you can't split them in half???

Fiorcet with codeine are capsules, so they cannot be cut in half.  You are right, I will try to do 2 in am 1 in pm 1 in evening tomorrow to see if this is better.   I just get that high from the two at a time.  I guess I am going to have to face reality of not getting the high and just concentrate on getting off - it is hard to taper, but I do not see other options.  No way I can go c/t.  I would not be able to go to work or take care of my son.  I always wish I could go into detox for a week, but impossible in my situation.........I just need the strength.  Coming in here and reading everyones posts helps quite a bit.

The first step to getting off pills is to STOP taking enough to get high...  start there.. then taper.. give yourself a week between drops so your body adjusts.. if tapering past 3 a day gets too hard look for a doc that does Suboxone to finish your taper.. I am here if you need any help.. I had successfully tapered to 5mgs a day before having an accident that required meds..

Thank you again.  I know I have to forget about getting the high and just concentrate on the tapering.  I became addicted because they took away the migraines but at the same time made me feel good.  Like I said, reading these posts helps tremendously and I hope that I will be able to lend support to others once I become stronger and more confident in my own fight.
