Fioricet Withdrawal

I have tried to cold turkey my way out of taking fioricet 3-4 times a day, this caused me to have a very bad mental break down. My fear is that I will have a seizure, I have delt with someone else having a medication withdrawal seizure (tonic-clonic, or clonic tonic I forget what the order is) and that dreadful noise is forever stuck in my head! PLEASE, I want to know what the likelihood of me having a seizure is, I have been taking the fioricet for a few months now, and have lowered it down to 3 a day. I must have a professional estimate or reccomendation before I have another breakdown!

Are the fioricet the ones containing codeine? Makes a little difference. For a few months and getting down to 3 per day you really should be in pretty good shape. I am acquainted with people that cold turkey'd larger doses. But even the plain fiorocet contain butalbital - and thats a barbiturate that should be slowly tapered for safety. Not a high likelihood of a siezure at all ....... but one that must be taken into consideration regardless. And codeine is a weaker narcotic itself ..... so if it is involved it isnt a deal breaker....  medhelp has an Expert Addiction Forum that allows you to Post and the Doc will answer - - - - - - -

I would contact your DR and ask them to help you develop a taper schedule. That should ensure you don't withdraw too quickly and have a seizure. Your DR is always thebest personto ask about these types of things...good luck!
