Fioricet anyone?

Day 2 of trying to cut back.  I would take anywhere from 12 to 17 a day, the ones without codeine.  I am hooked, and I know it.  recently  Texas has cut back on deliveries, and I have been unable to order from my usual online pharmacies.  Last prescription is down to 57 pills today, trying to spread them out.  This will be my 5th time for withdrawal, Fourth time was a real *****, and I did it at home.  I just hope and pray i do not go into seizures.  Most of my problems stem from an unhappy marriage and home life that I cannot forget when I was a kid.  WHY CAN'T I FORGET IT?  Had my antidepressants doubled the other day, all I could do was cry.  You guys keep talking to me, ok?

Hi girl, I just want to tell you that you have to tell your hubby, your secret will keep you sick, I promise you that.  I know how hard it is to come clean but in order for you to continue your taper and eventually off and the WD stage is over then it's time to do the mental work. Great job on your taper but please think about telling hubby. If he does not understand addiction print out some info for him to educate him on this disease, he needs to know, for better or worse, right? You said your vows... Just think about it, ok....

Hubby is sick and tired of me being on these pills.  He thinks I am off of them now, but I have no will power.  They are available online, and that is my weakness.  I have been taking 18 generic fioricet a day now for probably over a year.  AS soon as I get out of rehab, the damned Indians start calling me again offering the pills to me.  I am going to try to get off of them again, new years resolution.  How much should I cut down per day?

Did I forget to mention to you that one time my psychiatrist said that after 3 strikes you are out.  I asked him what he meant, and he said that after 3 times of quitting a drug, the withdrawal gets worse.  So I had a fourth time 13 years ago, did it on my own, but went cold turkey.  It was terrible, it was a big binge on New Years.  So I do believe the worse is yet to come for me, hope i survive.  I was addicted at one time to Ativan, then Fiorinal, then Esgic Plus, and somewhere in there xanax got involved.  Never tried anything with codeine in it.

If i started going to Narcotics Anonymous here in town, hubby would really get suspicious.  God what a predicament I am in.

I am gonna try for 8 today.  Made it 4 days on 9, just a little shaky yesterday, nothing really bad.  Haven't felt well, just keep telling hubby I am depressed.  Gonna have to come up with a better lie I guess.

I took an Advil PM to get rid of the jitters.  Couldn't go to slelep, and had a hard time getting to sleep last nite.  After I get down to 6 a day, will it be easier to cut back faster?

Tell me about it!   Of course that's not healthy and I think it's natural to want to escape sometimes but you've made a good decision to get off them. Memory loss is the LEAST of the horrible crap that can evolve from long term use. Once youre off the things you'll feel a lot better...make those drops in dosage a little longer apart. I'm sure you're in a hurry but slow is the way.

Usually, with a proper taper you really don't feel bad at all. I would never have believed it and I took this stuff for 30 years...headache and anxiety were the most prominent symptoms and easy to overcome.

You haven't mentioned any recovery care, which would be helpful right now and definitely after the taper.  I truly believe its essential. Let me know your thoughts and I'll try to help in that area as well.

Proud of you!

Vicki, so far day 4, just have the runs.  don't know where that comes from.  Gonna try for 8 today.  I think the rebound headaches came from the caffeine.  I took the equivalent of an excedrin to help that.  Haven't had migraines now for over 14 years.  I cannot go to my doctor, she is a former student.  GAWD what a predicament I am in.  Now that I am coming out of the haze a little bit, I can begin to see how much of my memory it has destroyed.  Why do we do these things to ourselves?  Mine is to help me ignore hubby, can't stand him.  Please keep in touch.

Debbie-  please don't take any phenobarbital while you're taking Fioricet. You won't have seizures while at nine tabs per day and Suboxone will not work for any wd's from this med...

It's always good to be in touch with your PCP for something like a taper from a barbiturate. The secret is to drop your dose amounts small and slow and if I'm being honest, I'll tell you  that it's not easy to do by yourself...

Find a recovery program that would be a good fit because it's imperative you get support. Getting off the pills is only the first step in a very long process to sobriety...

I've gone through the same thing as you quite recently. It is truly an insidious drug and hard to stop but POSSIBLE! I did not have seizures quitting cold turkey, though some people do with this dangerous med, but felt really down for about a week. If you've been doing them for a while, definitely get help from your doc.
Now I am feeling like myself again. Those things turned out to give me terrible rebound headaches which was bad since I took them for migraines. However, I can take Imitrix for the worst migraines, and even Advil helps these days. Just get through those first couple weeks and there is light and hope waiting for you! Sleep, eat, exercise, connect with things outside your home and the time will fly by and you'll feel good!

I have some phenobarbital, afraid to take it unsupervised.  Went to a clinic in Houston, was gonna try subcutex, but i got sicker than a dog.  These guys just gave me pills and sent me home, like it was no big deal.  GEEZE  Now I am getting scared.  But this is day 3 on 9 pills, so far only tummy ache and the runs.

Hi & Welcome!   I had a wicked addiction to that stuff years ago.  And the rebound headaches were worse than the headaches I took them for.  I had to get honest with my Dr and let them know I too was getting them online and had a problem.    He wound up prescribing me phenobarbital on a taper plan to help me get off of it.   The withdraw from fiorcet can be life endangering, so please get your Dr included in your recovery plan.   The barbituate meds in those are very dangerous!  I know that may sound hard to do, but your Dr is there to help you with your medical issues, not judge.   They would rather have us seek out their help than continue suffering or have life threatening health problems.    Please keep posting back....
