Hi Dear.....Have a question.  I have a friend who just got out of detox.  He was in for 4 days because of insurance reasons........they used phenobarbital, ativan (i think) and suboxone and something else .......I can't remember.  Anyway, my question is on his suboxone the prescription says 8mg-2.  Do you know exactly what that means.......is it 8 or 2 or 4 or what???  he says he is taking 1quarter pill a day.......says it's 1mg?  will it be easy for him to jump off of 1mg?  he has been at this dose for about 10-12 days.  just curious.  Thanks.

Luv,
Nauty.................

Nauty..If he's been that involved, I'd say to encourage him to taper as low as possible. You want to get off as soon as possible, but not at the expense of jumping off at too high of a dose. Have him get some of the 2/.5mg ones and cut them into halves and thirds..it's hard tapering to .5mg with an 8mg tablet.

i have heard fl say that as well if you can go all the way down to .5 it makes it much easier

Nauty..I jumped off of 2mg 2 days ago. I took 4mg for 4 days, then one day at 2mg, then nothing. I did it because I wanted to get this out and done before my trip. I'm doing OK, but I think it's best if you can do 2mg for about 4 days, then maybe 1mg for 1 and even .5mg for 4 if you can. You can jump off at 2, but the smaller you can go, the less the wd's. So far I've had some anxiety and a little stomach problems. Nothing like full blown withdrawals. Hope this helps some..

Hi Nauty..I know this wasn't directed to me..but the 8 is the mg's of Buprenorphine (the opiate part)  in the pill. The 2 is the 2mg of Naloxone. The Naloxone is placed in there to block the effects of the Bup if it's crushed and injected. If you let it dissolve under your tongue like you're supposed to, very little of the naloxone reaches your system. There's also a 2/.5 pill that's 2mg Bup and .5mg Naloxone. One quarter a 8/2 pill would be 2mg of Bup and .5mg of Naloxone. Did that all make sense?? :)
