Free detox anywhere ?

I am currently unemployed with no income or medical care and I am trying to detox from the Vicodin that I have been prescribed for years for migraine. I was able to get off the other two medications I was on with it but now find when tapering the Vicodin there is a point I just can't take it anymore- the chills, leg pains etc. can a person with no money check into a hospital for detox? Or if not what other resources are there? I don't look like an addict which is part of the problem so if I go to the emergency rm I don't know of they will treat me. Just can't seem to break below 4-5 half doses of 500's a day on my own.....

Hi Jen-  do you think you need to go to an in patient detox?  You're taking a pretty small amount I think or maybe that's just what you've tapered down to...in any event, do you have anyone who could help you with this at home?

If you get everything you need, like OTC's for symptoms that may appear, you can manage this at home for free and we can support you on this end. What do you think?

Hello and welcome to the forum,

It may depend on what state you live in but I know that in KY if you show up to  treatment without insurance or money there is money reserved for those who need the treatment.  The only thing is calling and asking won't help, you have to show up and explain to the administrator of the dire situation you are in.
Like I said, it may be different for every state but in KY it is possible and I have done it.  As long as you are trying and don't give the staff a hard time, I have seen people stay for a week or longer.  It is always worth a try.  I like to say that nothing changes until the fear of change is less then the pain of staying the same.  If you really try to find recovery, you may find it.  Also look into outpatient treatment.  If nothing else works start going to meetings like AA and NA.  Take what is available to you, however little you think it might help and keep coming back here you will find a lot of help

hi and welcome!  i would call the hospital and ask who you could speak to about care in the area....tell them your situation...you don't have to give your name.....and see if they can lead you in the right direction....

others will be along soon to give you support and advice as well...sorry i couldn't be more help....

so you've tried detox at home??  the only cost you would have if you do it at home, is the supplies to get you thru WDs for a few days...if you decide to go that route, we can help you thru it....i did it at home from a 100-140mg hydro habit...was on them for many years....i went CT...that's not for everyone but was the only way for me.  let us know how we can help....keep posting and asking questions!  we are here for you!
