Free from Suboxone

I've been going over posts on suboxone treatment and can't find anyone that has come off of it. Has anyone taken the suboxone for opiate withdrawl and successfully gotten off the suboxone? If so how long does it take? Withdrawls again?

thats a bunch of nonsense from where I sit. I havent done dope since 2004...just got off Sub after 8 years. Trust me, my brain did NOT heal itself. I have 40 some days off my last dose and am still sick. The long halflife of Subs (36 hrs.) means that the brain completely shuts down its natural production of endorphins. Now with no sub sitting on the (greatly multiplied) receptors, My brain is sick. Not healed one bit, but damaged to the point that I fear the sub maintenence has done permenant damage.

Thanks for all your input.I'm gonna try cold turkey first. I'm in a good position. New place, no job, still have an income, nice weather, walking access to a gym and hot jacuzzi, walking distance to a heated pool. No contacts for 2000 miles. No doctors that can call in a refill script. But I do have a long list of opiate dependancy doctors that are within 10 miles of my new apartment. I hope I can do it this way instead of prolonging it with the suboxone.  Think maybe I'll do the cymbalta with a long, soft taper. I never had depression until I stopped taking hydrocodone regulary. I think that's what caused it. I wasn't taking enough of the "heroin" every day. That's what me and my kids and family call it. (hydrocodone) We laugh about it but everyone knows how serious it really is. Have to tell you my family and kids have just been great about the whole thing. Don't know what I ever did to deserve them but sure am glad. Thanks again. U guys R GREAT!!!!

if you are considering suboxone, ck out 'kyjobr' profile, she has a really great pdf in there that has tons of info on suboxone .. good luck to you on your road to recovery  .. i've been on suboxone since april 2007 ... i chose the long term for me .. i am tapering slowly ... hopefully to be down to 1 8mg tab in january ... eventually i would like to get off them .. but i also deal w/back pain & neck pain from disk problems ... so, not only does it help w/cravings and w/d's but it works great for pain ... keep us posted on how you're doing...peace!

Suboxone allows your brain to repair itself while your on it, which methadone does NOT allow.  Depending on how long you have been addicted to opiates, regardless of it's form, Suboxone allows your brain to heal so that when you STOP the Suboxone the damage from your previous addiction on the brain is GONE.  Detox removes the substance but NOT the damage to the brain.

Thanks for some really good info! Think I'm gonna just try to taper and cold turkey, hold the suboxone. I was looking at your friends list and can't stop crying. Thinking about the thousands of people going through this nightmare. The poor girl who finds out she's pregnant, families torn apart, dreams crushed. Don't mind me, I'm having a real strange day. I've been up since 5:00 a.m. It's 1:00 p.m. and I haven't had any cravings for hydrocodone. In fact I can't remember the last time I felt this good. Do you still get withdrawl symtoms? Do you feel normal yet? Thanks so much!!!!   XO

Hey there. You are right. There are more people on it than there are off of it.  I used Sub for 10 days to detox off of pain meds. I have now been clean for almost 5 months. I can answer any questions you may have.

Also in my profile,in my journal I have a Sub FAQ posted there that was written based on patient experiences that also may give you some info that may help you make a good solid decision.
Hope this helps.

XOXO
