Getting off Methadone

Anyone familiar with successful treatment to get off methadone? 200mg+ daily dosage.

I'm "once again" trying to get off methadone.  The last time I tried was not completly horible but it was mostly horible. What I did last time and what I'm doning now is to come down only 2 millagrams a week. I would stop for a week or two or three in between if my body was'nt feeling well, because why suffer if you don't have to.  Once I was at 32 millagrams I went impatient and was there for 21 days.  It took two weeks to finish my taper then a week there clean.  I only lastest four weeks, including the one in rehab.

For one thing I was'nt on any of my mental health med's, which was my biggest mistake.  When I got out I knew people in N/A because I was going a lot before to try to get my head straight, but once I was home I only hung out with new commers and shared all our war stories and was using in three weeks.

You have to have your head straight because it effects so much of your over all feelings and emtions.

You know what for starters try cutting your dose in half and stay busy during the time you do it you may notice it and you may not, Some times as addicts it is easy to justify needing a huge dose only to find out in reality their is not much difference between 100 mg and 200 mg only the quality of life changes instead of being non functional you find you can function better, After you do that get everything together nothing hanging over you head all that and get off the 100mg either cold or taper down to where you feel sick again..then step off..Their is no easy way although sometimes jail is a good way to start cold turkey and they will help you by completely ignoring you..This is one of the reasons I have quit that s**t again I don't want to have to do it under the worst circumstances living on the street,jail,cut off etc etc etc..so while you can and have hopefully a place to do it ..Do it..Go To N.A. get together with other people who are working a program..SUCCESSFULLY..and get some support..And have mercy don't start on something else thinking it will make withdrawals easier if you are on 200mg either you were shooting a truckload of dope or have some serious pain issues.. Or don't like to be uncomfortable..either way..It will not be easy..Hang in their and let me know how your doing and keep posting you can do it...And pray for strength..Good Luck...a-waken

I was on methadone for five years 90 mg per day.  I got administratively discharged from the clinic and got what they considered the "bad" detox.  (All that means is they weaned me off at a faster rate.)  Even so it still took several months for me to go from 90 down to 5mg.  They dropped me ten mg per wek until I got down to 20 mg.  Then it was 20, 15, 10,and 5.  I still had an awful time of it and was sick for 30 days.  From day 30-60 things were better.  It is a horrible detox, the withdrawal symptoms seem to go on forever.

I am detoxing off opiates again and this time I am using suboxone. I just started it today after going cold turkey for 6 days and let me tell you I feel 100% better.
