Getting off Norcos

by jdperry, Jul 23, 2009 06:16PM
I have been on Norcos for about 3 years. First taking 4 a day and now have worked my way up to 24-29 pills a day. I can't even begin to tell you the guilt I have. Its ruining my life.  I have always been the one in my family that was the good one, the one that never got hooked on drugs or alcohol. I feel like the worst person in the world to have let this happen to me. I want to get off them but I'm so afraid like everyone else of the withdrawls. I went to a pain management specialist yesterday and I told him I wanted to get off and he said oh just taper down. I don't think that will work for me, I have tried that but he won't listen. I am taking 5 less today but I don't even have enough to taper down. I am going to my primary Dr on Monday to tell him that it didn't go very well with the specialist and see if he can help me, I know I can't do it cold turkey like a lot of people on here have, I can't handle the pain so I was wondering if anyone has had help with other medications like Buprenorphine, Subtex, Suboxone, and Zofran was brought up on one site. I don't know anything about these medications as I have only heard about them today when I was searching online about getting off the norcos. Going to a inpatient facilitly is not an option for me nor is going on Methadone (heard horrible things about that) and I have to start back to work in a week and a half, I can possibly take another week off if I have to but thats it.

Up to 29 Norcos a day? Whoa. You def. need Suboxone. It can be dangerous but it saved my life. If you can get your hands on some take only a qtr. of what they tell you to take. It was way to strong for me and I only took it for a month. But once that month was over I went cold turkey and had one day of mild withdrawls. You can do it. What you can't do is keep taking these pills everyday. It will catch up with you. Good luck!

If you decide to go the Suboxone route..please, go to a doctor. I hear so many people on here saying to try this med or that med. They say "if you can get your hands on some"..which to me means getting from friends, family, or off the street. Also, take what the doctor prescribes for you. I think it's dangerous to get dosage advice from a message board. Would you trust someone telling you to take just a quarter of the insulin you're prescribed? Suboxone is a powerful medicine, and we as addicts seem to downplay the strength of many of the drugs we took. How else can we explain 30 pills a day? Find a Sub doctor that will do what you ask..but, stick with his recommendations. Contrary to our addictive beliefs...we're not doctors..we just play one on this message board.
