Getting off of soma?

by allicata50, Oct 30, 2007 11:15AM
I've been on soma for 4 years. For about a year or more I've take 3-4 350 mg a day.
What is the best to do? I understand it is very addictive. Wonder if I can slowly get off of the drug? I am now taking (started Saturday) 2 a day. Right now I am anxious and I have a prescription for xanax and am taking that to get by until I am off. Is it important to go to a detox center? My pschyatrist  has me taking Lamictral. And will get me another prescription of the soma so I can pare down. Any suggestions?

Soma's are muscle relaxers right?

I used to take somas and vicodin together.  The somas I didn't really crave, and they are non narcotic.  I think most of the withdrawls you'll feel are mental.  I'm not expert, I just wanted to comend you for trying and for reaching out for help.  My bf takes somas still and sometimes he can't walk or talk while he's on them.  He's always saying "Their NON-ADDICTIVE"  He sounds like such a stupidass when he says that.   Anyway My Best To You!

My Dr. has had me on soma 4 a day PLUS vicodin 4 a day for like 7 years for various problems. I C/T off the vicodin 4 weeks ago. It was a few days of flu like symptoms but I was determined. The Soma, who people say is not addictive, I do not agree with that. Seems I want more of those now that I am off the vicodin. They, from what my pharmacist told me, are not even a controlled substance in most states so apparently they are not supposed to be so addictive. I am telling you from my experience that THEY ARE....I take them for muscle pain and they DO help with that. I am psyching myself up to get off of those, too. I have to say since I have been taking ONLY the soma the past month my appetite has increased....NOT a good thing. I think the vicodin kept it in check PLUS gave me more energy....that is for sure. I hear different stories on getting off of the soma. Some say they have taken 30-40 a day and stopped C/T which I can't even imagine. I thought anything over 10 a day might stop your heart as your heart is a muscle and this drug is a muscle relaxant??? So I am sort of in the same boat trying to find a way to get off of this. I have to tell you my Rheumatologist who has prescribed these drugs to me for 7 years told me I'd have no problem stopping the vicodin but the soma I'd need to go into rehab???? BUT then he would keep me on these drugs the rest of my life. I am the one wanting off as am tired of worrying if I have enough and especially if I take trips.. You know the story. I really can't wait to be DRUG free.  OK that's about all I know about soma. It DOES help my muscles to not hurt as much but I'd like to stop those, too. Precious

Yes they are a muscle relaxer. My phychristist thinks if I take it slowly I will be ok. So I will try that first. I guess just take it one day at a time. Add in the good and take out the bad.
