Going mental!

Hey there, well its been about 24 hrs and started to feel it all. The aches, sweats and pain, but I can take that. The problem is the mental aspect of this all. I am so down on myself for the relapsing that I just cant seem to find any positives right now. I know the greatest positive is that I am getting off this s***. Its just hard to see any silver lining at the moment. Certainly not looking forward to the sleepless nights, insomnia was awful the first time around. I love all of you and please keep writing me

Like others have posted, so much of this is mental, so you are not imagining things when you feel you are "mental"...because it IS mental, very much so...The physical symptoms WILL go away probably much more easily than the mental things....but it is when we actually  DEAL with our mental stuff in a sober state that we make the greatest progress in resolving the issues and/or problems that caused us to start taking chemicals to "feel good".

I found that staying busy, exercising and being outdoors, getting fresh air and sun helped a lot. One Dr. told me that exercise is actually a better antidepressant that pills, but there are many people who hate exercise and find it hard to do....so that is not always what is going to "work" for everyone. But, you do get a natural opiate type high from exercise that you own body has the capacity to make .... the longer you stay clean, the better your natural endorphins or your endogenous morphine works.

drinking lots of water and eating well are important for you mental state. Many people do NOT eat well when they are using drugs, which just further compounds the mental part. Our brains do not function well when we don't eat well. Also, if you enjoy ANYTHING in life, do it...and try to stay busy doing things you enjoy.

I so understand the phase of depression and/or addiction cycle when a person doesn't even want to get out of bed....but the BEST thing a person can do is to "get up, dress up, and show up." That helps to get the ball rolling and before you know it you are part way through your day and haven't even taken any chemical to keep going. So staying busy is very helpful, I have found.

One day, I was having a hard time getting out of bed in the morning and I just wanted to go back to sleep instead of facing the pain of another day...that's how bad it was at times...but someone I met at a support group got through to me and just cheered me on: get up , get up, get up, get up.....and I felt that support and i was thankful for it as it helped me to actually get out of bed and get going. Once I got going, then it was like putting one foot in front of the other.

sometimes, I have felt it helpful to do tasks that are simple and easy so that you feel a sense of accomplishment and don't get so down on yourself. If you did something, ANYTHING at all with your time during the day, even if it was just a simple errand you had been putting off, I found that it helps to just go ahead and get that little errand done and you feel better. I've always struggled with procrastination. While you are detoxing, in order to stay busy and keep your mind focused on something besides the detoxing, start doing some of the "THINGS" that you have put off for awhile....stuff like that can be a "back-log of hinderance".....and is a burden.

best to everyone and thanks for all the posts.

Thanks for the support, and yes this is so much mental. Got to stay positive. Think about all the good things that are to come. The freedom, the extra money, better health and better relationships( that are not full of lies about drugs). Feeling good about 48 hrs since I took my last perc , going to try and walk or run for little bit and eat something, and hopefully watch my Bruins close out the Flyers tonight. Thanks for your support

Hey there everyone Day 2 and I am feeling OK. Actual;ly got some sleep last night and so far Wds have been less severe tan I can remember the last time. I am much more prepared this time and got all my vitamins and getting out and exercising ius huge. Even if you have no energy get outside and just walk it helps. The first time  I did ct  i just laid in bed and sulked and felt bad for myself and that was the worst thing you can do. This time i gotta think positive and keep functioning, even if that is only a walk around the block. I happy to be here with all of you and I am happy to be clean.

Thanks so much everyone for your kind words. For a second there I even smiled reading your responses. I feel much better now. The ups and downs are what get you, when you feel really down you think this is going to last forever but it never does. I got a keep and eye on the great things ahead. Getting married in June.. thats why I want to be clean. Clean and sober when I make this commitment. Thanks everyone

Hey dude hang in there you have done this b/4 you can do it again...try not to get discouraged...go into this with a win win attitude at least this time your not blind on how you might feel...dont read anything into it.....it will be what its going to be...and its usually worst in our minds then it actually is remember this is 2/3 mental and 1/3 physical even though it might seam opposite at times...take hot baths they help with the creepy crawaleis  and will settle your anxiety...remember this is only temporary you will get thew it...use your symptoms to strengthen your resolve to quit ...dont let the no sleep thing get to you ...you might have to be satisfied with cat naps for a wile...right now you just have to be ok without being ok for a wile you will make it out of this ....keep posting for support good luck and God bless.....Gnarly

Hang in there  You can do this.  Sometimes we build ourselves up for the "terrible" and it turns out not so bad.  Try not to focus on how bad you feel.  I know it's hard but for me during this last w/d I tried to be more focused on the end result instead of the actual w/ds and it wasn't so bad.  They were uncomfortable but if I stayed busy large chunks of my day were tolerable.  I did take tylenol PM to sleep so I did get 1/2 a nights sleep.

I'm rooting for you...Rue

Gatorade is good.  Apple juice has lots of potassium and will help leg problems.  Imodium will be necessary, unfortunately! : )

You can do it!  Keep posting here!  We will support you!

In my experience the first three days are the worst.  It sounds like you are prepared with your vitamins, immodium and fluids.  The hardest part is mental though.  Just try to keep your mind busy if possible.  Vicki's suggestion about hot baths or a heating pad is helpful too.  If you have any benzos they can take away the creepy crawlies, but they are risky because they are addictive too. Keep us posted and take care.

I was taking anywhere from 150-250mgs of percocet a day. I got the vitamins and some imodium AD, lots of fluids. I am prescribed some sleeping pills and hope they work through this cause the first time I did this I didn't sleep for the first few days( at all).

Hi~ Try not to dwell on the negatives.  Just one hour at a time...Get yourself comfortable, drink lots of water and stay focused on being well and feeling good.  It's not
easy but sometimes I think it's worse if we over think it.    Do you have everything you need?  Vitamins? Food? Juices?  Are you taking hot baths? Using heating pad?
Keep posting~  it may not end up as bad as you think.

Keep posting!  You will get lots of support.  Are you taking any meds or vitamins to help the WDs?  There are some things you can get over the counter that really help!

Good luck!
