HELP! 7 days off percocet & I have to get surgery! Advice plse!

by momtryinhard, Apr 23, 2009 07:35AM
Hi, I have been off percocet 10/325 for a week now. I started them about 3 months ago due to a herniated disk. After my last shot I felt relief and decided to wean myself off. The process took a week and I am proud of myself for showing the restraint of knowing I had pills and not eating them all at once to feel better! Even tho I was weaning and started the Thomas recipe, I still had w/d. After my last day of percs I did have minor W/D's no energy, upset belly etc. A week later I still have minor belly issues but otherwise not too bad. Tomorrow I have to go to the hospital for a vaginal out patient procedure that according to my Dr. will cause discomfort and bad cramping for a few days. He knows I'm a whimp with NO pain tolarence and said "don't worry, we will knock you out and give you something for pain". I never asked what it was, he's a great OB and is not loose with scripts at all. So it may just be strong motrin. BUT if I'm in alot of pain after, is it ok for me to take what he gives for a day or two? Will I suffer from withdrawls again? Will I have to wean off again? Ugh I'm just starting to get better and I'm scared to get a set back BUT that is a very sensitive area and I don't want to suffer in pain! My husband is aware of my pain pill stuff and is very critical of me, he has a "tough it out" mentality so I am having mad anixety about all of this! I can use any advice please!

r u having a dnc?  either way if it is outpatient it shouldnt be too terrible pain wise or it would not be being done outpatient...think positive and perhaps it wont be too bad...count out what u think u may need and get rid of the rest if u c u r gonna have to take them..maybe get someone u trust to dole them out to u as needed..and remember nan-narcotic pain relief like ibuprophen, ice and heat, often sumpin for sleep can help us rest thru the worst of the pain cycle and rest also helps pain...good luck to u

I am having the Novasure procedure due to excesive bleeding (5 weeks now) but he aslo has to "look around" with somekind of scope because I had a cyst removed 21/2 weeks ago (non cancer) but he wantes to find out more. I have been around the block with procedures on my uterus and back issues and it just seems that things that don't effect other people sometimes effect me more. For example the shots I had in my back, I was told ah, you will be able to resume normal things tomorrow..right I was in bad shape and hurting bad for about 3 days! I just wonder if I have to take anything and do it as I'm supposed to, for a day or so, besides mentally craving "the high" will it physcally make me sick all over again when I stop or will I have to wean again....even if it's like 2 days?!

u have been clean a week?  had it been a bit longer..a few days of use would not make u repeat wds..and if u r very careful//keep ur use low as possible//u may not have to repeat them this time..a week is fresh tho...it is a gamble but we r all different/so it is hard to say..if u abuse them then u will go into wd almost certainly..if u take one here and there for a few days only if needed/then there is a good chance u wont...personally..i would bite the bullet if i could cos it aint worth the risk...if ur tolerence was high then u r gonna have to use a bu11 load to get pain relief in the first place...that is a decision only u can make...i would try my best to do without...if it makes u feel better/fill the rx and hand them over telling the holder to give u one opnly if u r in pain u can not physically handle...the human body can withstand alot..many yrs ago there was no narcs available and people made it..so u can as well...fear can paralyze u..do not be afraid and see how it goes...keep posting and lt u know how u do
