HELP I Took a pill today

I ****** up today and took a hydro. I was almost 72 hours clean. My back was killing me. I have 2 hurniated discs and my S7-L5 is buldging with tears in them. I abuse the pills I know because I run out early. I don't know if I can actually quit taking them due to my severe back pain? Any suggestions? I tried OTC meds and Ibprofren 800 and Soma but nothing would help. Anyone got any ssuggestions?

Many of us have been there...now...what are you going to do about it? Have you tried any other options ie. PT, Yoga, Spinal Decompression Therapy, Accupuncture?  I slipped up too but I got right back to where I need to be....Just dust yourself off and get back on the horse....you have slipped ...but you did not fall!  Stay strong and don't beat yourself up....
Peace,
Marcie

Thanks I have tried other methods and it keeps getting worse. The pain has actually caused me to have high blood pressure and they had to put me on meds for it about a year and a half ago. I am only 27 and my BP runs about 180/106 which for my age is considerably high. So I know that I do actually have pain it is just I need the will to stop taking them. I know I can do this I have faith and I know if I beat myself up over it it will not help it will only hurt the situation. Thanks Marce for the support I really appreciate it!

Have they discussed surgery with you! I had a partial laminectomy/discectomy and I have recurrent herniation of the same discs L4-L5 L5-S1...sounds like that is a popular area of the back on this forum!!!  I'm sorry it is so painful.  How much were you taking before? Were you getting them legit and not taking as prescribed?  Were you totally abusing them....this is such a difficult thing for those of us with back pain!  I unfortunately cannot take these meds responsibly....I would rather live with the pain and figure out other ways to deal but I can't speak for you because I may not have the same pain. Just know that as long as you are honest with yourself, you know what you can and cannot handle!
Peace,
Marcie

They have talked about surgery but like I said I am 27 and really don't want the surgery. I have heard good and BAD things about surgery. My dad had back surgery when he was like 19 or so and he was 63 when he died and still had back problems.
As for the pills. Yes they were (are) prescribed to me. 7.5/500 4x's a day. The problem with that is I have been on them so long it doesn't help as much. So yes now I abuse them. I take sometimes 6 a day. I never wake up in the middle of the night to take one or anything but while I am up my pain is pretty bad not to mention I have a 7 year old son that keeps me on my toes! It seems like when it rains my pain is much worse and travels down my leg. And of corse today when I slipped up it is raining pretty good.
I did so good yesterday and the day before and I wasn't even having WD's today just really bad pain.
I am at a loss and need some suggestions. Anyone with any ideas would be great. Thanks so much guys, you all are great!

dont be scared of surgery just because your Dad's didn't go well, 40 years ago Medicine has come a long way. Your Pain is only going to get worse because on the pills you cant tell when you are injuring yourself further. Dont be scared of atleast talking to a doc about it.

Thanks I know medicine has come along way but I have heard both good and bad about surgery. But yes I will think about it. I actually have talked to my doc or at least he has talked to me LOL about surgery and I will think about it more. I realize if I don't do something it will only get worse. I am just really scared of surgeries any kind!

Don't come down too hard on yourself hun. There is a very big difference between dependence and addiction. You run out early because you develop a tolerance, this is how the human body works, you can't control that. If you took a pill for the pain it's not a slip. If you took a pill to get high that would be a slip. There are people who will not be able to get relief from other medications or methods, IT HAPPENS! ay typr of neuro surgery is going to have its risks, any surgery will have its risks. My husband just had surgery about 2 months ago now at his L5, S1 discs and it went perfectly. He took darvocet for about 4 weeks then tapered off as soon as the pain was not so severe.( he one of those people we all can't stand! Gets relief after major back surgery from 2 darvocet a day and never had to take the hydrocodone, as a matter of fact he went off the morphine pump in the hospital 2 days early and just asked for some flexeril and motrin) I have refused to have surgery on my adenoids (adenoids) b/c my mother was about 30 seconds shy of death when she had surgery on hers. This was about 2 years after I had my tonsils removed and my ENT has been wanting me to have the surgery on my adenoids (adenoids) since I was about 8 years old. I was born with sinuses from hell, couldnt breathe through my nose as a baby, and I couldn't breathe through my nose when I slept until I was 10 years old, but that surgery gets riskier the older you get. 2 high school students died within 2 months in my county after having a tonsilectomy. So anyway, I'm rambling, AGAIN! I just know it can be scary to consider surgery especially when someone so close to you had a bad experience with it. Have you tried any muscle relaxants like flexeril? or maybe something stronger? I know the Kratom thing is extremely iffy, about half of people have a bad experience and for half it's a miracle that releives their pain better than the pills ever did. There are a lot of herbs that are good for pain relief that are not addictive, as kratom can be addictive for some because it binds to certain opiate receptors.

Anyhow, it can be a long, long process trying to find alternatives to relieve pain just hang in there. And you didn't do a bad thing if you took your medication to relieve your pain. Those meds become bad when they interfere in your life, when they cause problems in everyday activity and you are taking them just to get high. Until you can find something that works for you or reconsider having surgery it's not a slip to take a pill to relieve your pain.

xoxo- D.
