Are you sure you did not accidently post on the addiction social forum?...it is a great place but not near as busy as this one....answers to questions like that are usually not ignored unless it is late night etc....sub can be a great tool..it is too bad ur doc did not give u more guidence....it is also habitforming...r u in withdrawals? if u r then it can help u short term to not suffer thru them...it does not help u to not relapse later tho....people who have relapsed repeatedly may stay on sub long term and get their life in order/make necesary adjustments..get aftercare..etc...i am referring to long term as 6 months or more and short term as a month or less..it depends on ur goal but beware that this is a strong narcotic and lower doses are better and easier to get off of as with any narcotic..short term is easier to get off of than long term as a rule......I did not use it to quit but know people who have...but only short term to avoid withdrawals...lots of infor at the suboxone site and in the health pages...also in my journal and others as well...if u r not in withdrawals i am not sure i would take it either...if u have been taking it then maybe tell us how much and how often u have been taking it...best of luck
I wouldn't knock the Sub program so quicly (no disrespect). It does work for many people who could otherwise not get clean due to w/d's. I'm speaking from experience. The people who abuse Sub in place of their drug of choice are the one's who give it a bad name but if someone really wants to get off opiates it can be a very helpful treatment.
I tried on my own to get clean for 5 years and could never get more than a day or 2 until I enter Sub. treatment. I should also mention that I was required to attend AA or NA daily and I did. I was ready to get off pills, some people do replace one addiction for another but it doesn't have to be that way. I will admit there is still pain when getting of Sub but it's much better than any way I tried.
I think you have to be ready and willing to follow the treating doc's directions to a "T" and make sure you get a doc with a history of treating addicts, not just someone who doles out Sub just to make $$.
I used the Suboxone program and have been off vicodin for a long time. Check Worried878 's journal, she posted a long thing about Sub and what it is and what it does. You can also send me a messsage if you want inside info on how it works. I'm sure I can answer most of your questions about how it works.
It's a wonderful way to get sober, at least it was for me!!
so, ya wanna know! first its not that the detox places dont allow subs, its that theyre not permitted to dispence it. drs. have to apply to be a suboxone dr.and there is a limitation of 100 patients they can see for it at one time. everything you wanna know is right at your fingertips. you can go to suboxone . com to get alot, or go to my posts on my profile and you can read about my experience with sub. if you have any specific questions feel free to ask. i'll be awake til 10.Teddy
LOL, sorry just realized you are not new to the site....but welcome anyway?
I have not taken sub but if used for less than 30days, you can really benefit from it. There are horror stories, and great stories here. Most of what I have read, the ones that have taken sub for longer periods of time have a really tough time getting off of it. Those who stick to shorter times do really well. It is designed to get you through the w/d period of your DOC, then you start to taper off the sub. As you taper, you need to develop an aftercare plan. Find meetings, AA/NA-either will do. Get into counseling, use this site and ask questions and vent your feelings and frustrations, find out the reasons you used pills to numb your feelings-Need to get to the core of WHY you use so you can develop strategies that will allow you to cope w/o the use of drugs. Welcome to this site, and I'm sorry you didn't get much response last pm. But the people here have a wealth of information so stick around.....someone with sub experience will come and give you great advice.
i too have never taken it. but i do someone who was taking it for like a year and had one hell of a time getting off of it. he was a recovering alcoholic for like 12+ years and went back to drinking to get off the stuff. what a mess trade off after trade off.
if you cannot find a doctor specifically trained in using the drug than you are better off to not play with it. i only know of 1 person on here that took it successfully and it worked and she is clean. i think she said that she was on it for like 2 weeks. and there is a schedule of different dosing you have to follow.
whoever gave you that suboxone should get into some kind of trouble.
You will find a wealth of information on med help For sub I would recommend looking at the journals of EmilyPost & Worried & and Fladdict......
I'm sorry that you haven't had a response yet. I've never been on Suboxone and don't know that much about it. Do you have a primary care physician that you can talk to? If so, maybe he can answer your questions. Hang in there, someone will come along who's either taken Sub before or is currently taking it. Good luck.
