HELPING SOMEONE

My daughter is addicted to cocaine, she has 2 beauiful children, one who lives with his father and 1 with me.  Her addiction has landed her in jail so many times I can't count them anymore. She always manages to get out. The last time she was there for a long period of time she gained weight and was actually overweight, but healthy. Now she is dow to 96 lbs, she is 5'2". The past 2 weeks she has been throwing up on and off all day. I know this is all due to the addiction. How can I help her to get help?

I agree with eagle the throwing up is not from coke. There were a few occasions during my coke use i vomitted cause i was gagging so bad, but i think if she's doing this a lot it must be something else, drinking? etc.  During my use nothing and nobody came between my cocaine. I hit bottoms, life fell apart so i decided to use more. The mental cravings of cocaine are impossible to understand until you have been there. Obviously jail was not enough for her to quit so i don't know how low she will have to go. I know i mention this on here sometimes, but the only thing that got me to stop using was my ambulance ride, it scared me straight and maybe it was a blessing.

She has to want to get help and without it i would say her chances are almost zero. i hate sounding negative, but i have been there, i have watched many addicted to this drug never quit, good people turn bad. I don't know the story with you and your daughter, but tough love is the only way now and if you can create another bottom for her then there is a chance. Yes, this drug will kill her so it's time for extreme measures. I'm so sorry you have to see this. I hope to see you back on here and as mentioned above al anon meetings would be good for you.

Your daughter is not throwing up for two weeks from coke. Just doesnt happen that way. Have a non-judgemental talk with her and express your concern. She could have another organic problem that is involved. And she could (my guess) be supplementing the coke with other drugs of choice. Bad news to override parental concerns. Its not an easy fix. Mention studies done that indicate monkies given the choice of friends, family, food, or coke - - always chose the coke exclusively - frequently to the point of social isolation and starvation. I would say that you need an alanon meeting or equivelant. You will get more ideas and options from the group........... and maybe an idea for getting her a wake up call..........good luck to you...

I feel your frustration about not being able to get help. I have an 18yr old that is addicted(this time to ecstacy) and no one will take him unless he wants help. Well, he doesnt! I wish I had great answers, but I'm looking for the same! Take care and I'll keep watching to find out if you get answers!
