HIGHLEY ADDICTIVE NUROFEN PLUS AND SOLPADINE PLUS

Hi all, this is the story of my husbands addiction. It began in June 2008, he was assaulted and kicked in the head, after a week of trips to the hospital, they eventually discovered [ after his eye actually came out ] that he had a fractured eye socket. On each visit to the A&E he was given pain killers, stronger each time, then the prescriptions ran out.... So he went to the pharmacy and asked for the strongest, he had Solpadine +.  He bought these and within a week he was already taking more than the recommended dose.  He then went back and bought Nurofen +. Within a week of taking these he was on a box 32 a day. Half in the morning and half in the afternoon, and then a week or so later, he was on two boxes, that's 64 a day. Again first lot in the morning second box in the afternoon.  Then a short while after he was taking the 64 n+ and 24 Solpadine +. He continued this until Thursday last week 4 - 06-2009 and on the way back from the chemist just after he'd taken his first box of the day he broke down in tears whilst driving home, and realised what he was doing, and decided to stop immediatley.
He imagined this wouldn't be too difficult because over a year ago he was an alcoholic and went cold turkey, and got through it, wasn't as hard as he thought but wasn't easy either. Just takes will power.  The first day off the N+ and Spoladine + , was easy.  And he had no idea what was coming.... Day 2 was horrendous, he was really ill, TIP make sure your gas bills paid, because you will be glad of the heating and red hot baths, up to 20 a day, this really helps. If you can be bothered to keep getting in or out. This was a real effort, you really do feel like your dying. But your NOT.. remember that, it will get better. Day 3, very much the same, as day 2, severe headache, shivers, fluey, aches and pains all over, appetite completely gone, the runs, just like water [ sudocrem helpful ], runny nose, very irratible, take a week off work and start at the beginning of the weekend, couldn't sleep, you would be very lucky if you get an hour solid.  All these herbal remedies do not work but may help if you start taking them before you stop taking painkillers, so they're in your system. RECOMMENDED DOSE ONLY.  Our GP recommended bach's rescue remedy drops for anxiety, these seem to help, and can be bought from Health food stores and Boots but I'm sure I don't need to tell you that, because you'll already know where all the local chemists are..... Day 4,  you do start to feel a little better and your appetite comes back and when you go to the loo, it begins to firm up.  It does seem to come in bought would have about 3 hours of not being too bad then 1 hour feeling **** again, if you can do something, concentration is hard but try, go for a walk, believe me, this helps. FORCE YOURSELF.  Day 5, feeling better again, but still hot and cold, headaches now only first thing in the morning, and also feel rough in the morning mainly from lack of sleep, perk up after a few hours.  Day 6, managed to sleep from 10 till 2, a whole four hours ... luxury.  But can't go back to sleep once he woke up, he tried but all he did was toss and turn. Still woke with a headache this lasted for about 2 hours, and was gone completely, a good sign.  Still feel like lead, but he deffinatley feels as though he's over the worst, getting a little better everday.
Hope anyone reading this isn't put off giving them up, this is the best thing he's done, and he feels very proud of himself, and I'm also very proud of him. UI had no idea he was taking these, and felt a bit stupid for not seeing it, but now I know, and can help. He's not alone though, I don't think I've come across anyone on the blogs who tell anyone, until they stop. The reason he told me was because we have 4 kids and he felt guilty me cleaning up everwhere so we didn't catch his BUG???.  If you can tell someone, the help is needed, and they'll probably feel as I do, just want you better.
GOOD LUCK EVERYONE. BE STRONG.
