Glad the breathing suggestion is helping! My daughter used to call me at random times the first two weeks of my withdrawals reminding me to breathe! I wanted to throw the phone at her...LOL...but instead I did the breathing! Lousy kid! :)
Hope this note finds you feeling better!
Hi there! I've been away all day, but I thought of you often! I hope you are doing well and getting some much needed and well deserved rest! You are well into day 5 now, right? I hope you are on the downslope now and I hope the anxiety has eased up! Please let us know how you are doing! I hope you were able to enjoy the family! Take care and congrats! You have done amazing! HUG!
NowOrNever I am sorry to hear you are having a rough time with anxiety. I see some people here have suggested breathing exercises they worked great for me. You asked about natural remedies well there are a few that help. One is valerian root, another is California Poppy extract which is a cousin of the Asian poppy without the opium. California poppy is not just a relaxant but also a pain reliever. You can get both of these remedies at any health food store. Just make sure you get the California poppy extract and not the crushed plant as the extract is more concentrated and you have to take less.
As for the Valarien root you can get this in capsule form or as a tea. I prefer the tea as I feel it works better. It's not the best tasting but if you add honey its ok. I hope this helps you the way it has helped me so Keep on Keepin on your doing great. God Bless---Rick
Thanks for the advice! I have been out all afternoon pretty much all my family just came up with my nieces and nephews. Needless to say I am exhausted hopefully it'll help me sleep a little tonight! I am about 4 and 1/2 hours away from day 5 starting! I hope I can muster a little more energy to hang out with my family. I am feeling a little anxiety right now but trying to breathe through it. Thanks again!
Day 4 I decided to make myself get out - go get a haircut. I drove 10 minutes to the shop...It was closed!!!! Talk about anxiety! Then I cried all the way home! True.
The anxiety is normal, as is the heightened drama around everything we do while detoxing. I experienced it even at two weeks clean, but by then I could control it. And lack of sleep is just fuel for the fire.
Congrats - you're about over the hump. Excellent job.
I remember the anxiety and getting so winded by something as simple as a shower and drying my hair! That will ease up slowly. The valerian I took is in capsule form. Unfortunately, I could not tell if it helped me or not. One thing is for SURE........sleep deprivation can cause some anxiety. I would have it hit me when I would wake up after a couple of hours of sleep. First thing in the morning when I'd open my eyes a rush of it would just hit me. The only thing that helped me was getting up immediately and making my bed and taking a quick shower! It started the day better, and with the bed made, I didn't have such a tendency to stay in it! LOL When you feel like it, start walking......the exercise type walking. Not the stroll type walking!!! The exercise will ease up the anxiety and help with restlessness and insomnia. Also, it will help your energy. Using a movie to take your mind off the anxiety is a great idea. Eating the egg and toast will definitely make you feel better overall.
You're doing all the right things! Just gotta add some patience.......the hardest thing!!!! : )
Thanks for the advice! I took a shower, cooked myself an egg and had a little toast. I feel ok. I get winded easily like everything even simple things are the hardest things ever! The breathing does help a lot! Still trucking through! :)
If you can get out of the house...get some sun and a little exercise...light walking might help. My daughter swears by breathing to help.

It did help me when I thought I was going crazy. Day 4, I MADE myself get out and have lunch with a friend. It was hard, but once I got there, I did better than I expected and actually enjoyed it. Anything to get your mind OFF the craving and general yucks!
Congrats on day 4!!!!
Thank you for the advice! I actually took a walk this morning around 5 am to try to build up energy, it was rough but I did almost a mile. I've been doing the breathing techniques and I do find it calms me a little. I am gonna get back to this movie the suspense is killing me! lol! Thanks again!
Anxiety does S U C K! I drank some of that kava stress relieving tea made by Yogi it helped a little plus I am watching a movie I have never seen before that's keeping my mind occupied. I have a Valerian Root supplement but it's hard to take cause it smells so bad it makes me gag!! lol! If I find anything that helps I will for sure let you know! I am just trucking through this trying to keep my mind as occupied as possible! :)
No going back for me, I have done this long enough. I want a clean and sober life not a life full of counting pills and constantly stressing. My body is still on the mend so I know I won't feel 100% right away! Thanks for the encouragement!! :)
Hi,the anxiety is tough and yes mine also came on waves, stay positive because it really does lessen over time. As always force some exercise to release endorphins. An often under used option is deep breathing.Keep yourself occupied whether with a book, call friends,a walk, to take your mind off it.Valerian root took the edge of the worst for me until it subsided.Your doing great with this and I promise you it will be improving soon.Take care.
Harms
The anxiety is one of the biggest reasons why I cave. I think it has alot to do with lack of sleep as that's when it always hits me too.
Try the melatonin when the anxiety hits. I buy the easy dissolve kind and slip a couple under my tongue and let them melt when the anxiety is really bad. It seems to help a bit. I also use a Stress Ease vitamin and take one of those.
I have heard valerian root helps too but I haven't tried it yet. I am going to.
I know how hard it is and let me know if you find anything that helps.
Jackie from this forum has recommended Visteral but you need a prescription for it. It is non addictive as well and I am going to ask my doctor for it when he comes back from holidays.
Hope you are feeling a little better. Apparently it does go away but it is really hard when you are going through it.
You know our bodies have been thru so much with taking this junk, that I'm not sure even a NASA engineer knows alll the effects of it.. I'm sorry I don't know know any kind of "natural" remedy. What worked and works for me is good old fashioned prayer, if GOD can't fix it, how can I? Take walks, get clean oxygen in your lungs, and don't listen to what your mind is telling you, you don't need that stuff, you've proven it 4 days, and your still alive.... It's not an easy process, getting and staying clean...... but anything worth having isn't always easy. Hang in there, your doing great!
