Has ANYONE taken hydrocodone for near 20 years?????

I am down from 8 pills.. down to 6... then down to 4... now I'm down to 1 pill a day.  My question is, has ANYONE taken them that long??? Can anyone tell me if it will be worse when I stop???

BE CAREFUL WITH The SUB!!!  I turned it down.. They were pushing it on me and pushing it on me... I told them NO!!  I looked that drug up... and so many people trying so hard to get off it.. Please don't take it at big doses and don't take it for very long... I am so glad I said no... I am way down to almost nothing now,...

Thank YOu .. sarah... yes, there is some meetings I can go to... I haven't been answering their calls... waiting until I feel better.. waiting until I can give up that last one little pill... can't see that it's doing much.. the tiny nibbles I take off of it.. and hours go by.. I am decided to replace the norcos with tylenols... make it easier.. I am so used to taking pills... Again, thank you all

I have been an addict off and on since a very young age.  I finally made a decision to (really) stop this time and am taking Suboxone.  It is intended to assist with the cravings and the withdraw symptoms.  It is really a lifesaver.  I still have crappy days but the cravings are SO much less intense than they were prior to the Suboxone.  Read up on this medication and see if your Doc is one who is prescribing it.  It doesn't hurt to look into it.  It may not be for everyone.  I was worried about it "replacing" the narcotic and so spoke with an NA sponsor and she said if my Doc gave it the nod, then to go for it.  I am glad I did.  There will be withdraw from this med as well but I needed to find a way to "bridge" myself away from the narcotics.  I didn't like myself as an addict.  Everyone suffers along with the addict.  I was losing all that I had once been.  I can still get it back but life is SO MUCH BETTER off of drugs and I know that because I have felt the difference.  I want to be done.  I will be done.  We will all be ok no matter how long/hard/intensely we've taken pills.  We can and will recover if we want it bad enough.  I am just sick of being sick on pills.

One pill a day is a HUGE step!  Give yourself a lot of credit for that and don't stop...

I am supporting all of my fellow humans who struggle, like me, with addiction.  It's horrible.  We are pretty amazing people to keep on fighting this battle...

Yes, I've known others you have taken narcotics for that long and they have completely recovered.  One person just had some Excedrin with her to help with the shakes during wds.   She drank plenty of fluids and started walking as a form of exercise.  Slow progress but she has been recovered for years now.

Good luck to you

The wd's are the easy part of this addiction.  Do you have any type of aftercare in place?

I took hydrocodone for many years, then went to norco, it is hard to stop but you can do  it, I am on day 3 going on day 4 and I am still alive, I am looking forward to the next day and the next, but sober, no more pills for me, so I know when you feel is your time time to stop, you will make it, and I have a feeling that your time is up, keep in touch and start the fight.....soon you will realize that hydrocodone is not worth it, your life is more value than any pills, believe me.....
