A friend of mine has been telling me about ibogain. does anyone know more about it? my brother is on oxycontin and some other pills that i don't know the name of and he really just needs to detox off them. Has anyone had any ibogaine treatment. if so has it helped you get off the drugs?

Let me tell you something. I had injured my back at work back in 2001 and ended up getting put on Vicodin. We'll we all know what happens from there cut to seven years later and I have a needle in my arm shooting up heroine. I tried everything from cold turkey to suboxone and kept relapsing due to withdrawals. Now I'm not saying you can't quit cold turkey but with two jobs and four kids the withdrawals were just to much for me. So I looked into a treatment using ibogaine. I was at my last hope so I went for it and it thank god to this day I did. It puts you in a dream like state for 1-3 days depending on the person, now this isn't fun by any means. I or anyone who has taken it would never be able to explain what you go threw. This is nothing like a LSD trip. Your ego is totally stripped away from you and you see intense visions of things you NEED to see it digs down deep in yourself and answers questions you need to know that you didn't even know you had about yourself. Now when I came out of my so called "trip" I was totally free of any sort of withdrawals or cravings. I'm now two years clean and never ever think about going back to that crap again and not only did this cure my opiate addiction but I haven't smoked a cigarette or drank alcohol since then either. And when I ate it was like eating for the first time again it was like I got a new set of taste buds but that's a different story. I wake up every mourning now filled with love life and energy. This is also not just for addicts. My wife seen the amazing thing I went threw so she decided to go and when she came back her life long depression was gone and no longer needs to be on her lexapro. This is an absolute miracle drug for me and my wife I can't speak for everyone but for me and my wife the incredible transformation we went threw NO ONE can take that from us

I've looked more into ibogaine and found some great info and a place in El Salvador that helps treat people with problems like my brother. Tell me what you think about it considering you work at a medical facility. thank you

Yeah, I wouldnt bother with Iboga. Its natural for people to search out easier ways to detox off of opiates/opioids but the best and safest option is to adhere to the established protocols recommended by the medical/pharmacological orthodoxy.

Interestingly, a lot of the pro Iboga literature often refers to a NZ study/trial where it was tested (along with Kratom) on a group of detoxing addicts. Inexplicably, it is often  reported positively with no mention of the negative side-effects and contrary testimonials.  I had a couple friends involved in the trial and they both said it wasnt very effective and they wouldnt recommend it to others. The subsequent analysis and  trialists conclusions echoed their reservations in a medical document but this is often ignored or rebuked by  pro Iboga advocates

No doubt, there are people who are genuine and sincere in their promotion of Iboga and only want others to share in their positive experience. Most, however,  are shameless shillers of an "enigma compound" still in its infancy as a  legitimate adjunct to the established detox arsenal.  Until more conclusive evidence is available, I would avoid it completely.

He just needs the help from family, friends and the right rehab center. I work at a detox medical facility we offer heroine detox, cocaine detox, five day detox, inpatient detox, oxycontin detox, oxy detox, but most of the help is the support of family and friends that really help a person kick their addiction. Keep up the good work and support your brother.

You can also try getting bit by a rattlesnake. I heard that will cure an opiate addiction as well.

Using Ibogain to quit an opiate addiction works along the same principle as going out and getting extremely drunk on Tequila and waking up the next day with the worst hangover you've ever had in your life, then hoping that you will never touch another drink of any kind  again because you don't ever want to get that sick again.
You may as well snort a kilo of cocaine. Both have the same chances of working.

Ibgone is dangerous at best it sends you into a LSD like trip and supposedly you come out never to crave narcotics again....horse pucky.....addiction is not about the drugs it about whats going on inside of you you need to treat the person not the addiction the addiction is mearlly a symptom of whats really going on inside the person suffering it threw tharapy or consoling or a N/A meeting but something to treat the cause even if this dose get you off you will be soon to return back to what makes you comfortable people have dyed using this stuff I highly doubt it will ever be FDA aproved stay away feom this treatment good luck and God bless.......Gnarly

Ibogaine is now illegal in the United States. A few years ago you could purchase it quite inexpensively in herbal stores. It is a mild halucinagic substance used in mystical ceremonies in Africa. It is available in clinics in Mexico. It has been used to detox patients from opiates with mixed success. As far as oxycontin goes, you don't need ibogaine. Just a decision to stop and endure many aches and pains during withdrawal.

There is a decent documentary available on netflix called "facing the habit" about an opiate addict's trek to Mexico to take ibogaine- only to relapse later- but fairly informative... Good proof that recovery is sooooo much more than simply getting through withdrawals. The drugs are only a small piece of the puzzle.

It is illegal here in the US.

Withdrawal is usually not too bad.  It lasts 3-4 days of hell and then it takes about 2-3 more weeks to start feeling better.  Many people here detox at home and do well.  There are lots of tips and supports here.  The trick is you HAVE to want to quit.  When your brother is ready have him come here and we can help him.  Read some of the posts and see how that works.  It really works.  It did for me and I am amazed how supportive everyone here is.
