Has anyone tried Melatonin?

Has anyone tried Melatonin?

This is day 11 of Tramadol tapering for me.  25mil this morning at 5am.    4 hours later, feeling pretty good:)  I want to be totally off the pills by July 1, maybe sooner.  Has anyone tried Melatonin for insomnia?  I took 1 last night before bed and was able to sleep for about 6 hours.  Aside from the mild insomnia, tapering has actually made me feel better.  Thanks to everyone for your inspiration:)

I tried Melatonin in the beginning, when I was in acute wd from tramadol, and it did not help me, but I'm not sure anything would have!!!  I haven't tried it in a long time now.  If it helps you, I say keep taking it!  6 hours is great, but you do still have tram in your system.  When you are completely done tapering, you may have to suffer with a little insomnia, but it gets SO much better!

Good job staying on your plan to taper!  I couldn't have done it!!!  You might want to just stop any time now, because that 25 mg may not be doing too much.  You could get it over with!!!

Good luck!

Hi, and thanks for your advice:)  The kind that I have is 3mg, but I only took one.  When you take 2, how many hours does that let you sleep?

Hi, and thanks for your advice and encouragement:)  The thought of " just getting it over with" has occurred to me, but I guess I'm a little scared that it will be a shock to my body. I've actually taken tramadol  for several years, about 5.  It started as needed for back issues.  My back became completely healthy, but I was afraid to stop the trams.  I was so fearful that the pain would come back and I was addicted. My dosage has been the same for all of this time, though.  I know that there is no reason for the pain to come back now, but am a little afraid because my body has gotten so used to the tramadol.  I'm surprised that it's been so easy this far, but I'm in it for the long haul no matter what w/d's I experience.  It's so helpful to have this forum.  I can always click on and know that others are going through the same thing.

Funny that I just picked up some melatonin about twenty min ago. I had remembered previously that really helped restore sleep pattern once acute withdrawl (withdrawal) was over. During acute withdrawl (withdrawal) I have not found anything to aid with sleep...melatonin, flexeril, Xanax, benadryl, alcohol, pot.... Nothing! But melatonin really seems to help around day 5 when your body is kinda resetting itself to normal... As for the date to jump, I would pick a time where you can be out of commission for a few days then just do it...

Best

i m not sure how many hours you will sleep....i go to bed around 11:00 asleep by 11:30 and get up at 6:00 am....not by choice but by just waking up around 5;45......if i have to work or do something i get up but if it s an off day i can usually go back to sleep for a couple more hours...i m ok on 6/7 hours of sleep....what i love is that i am sleeping without awakening until morning....when on the pills i would wake up so much during the night always thinking /worrying about pills...so maybe this less stress is helping me too...wishing you some good long zzzzzzzzzz,s....maria :)

I have to be at work at 6am, so I'm up by 4:30.  I can usually get to sleep by 9:30 or 10:00, but staying asleep is a problem. Today was my day off and I couldn't go back to sleep.  I'm still going to take just one 3mg Melatonin tonight and see how that works.  Thanks for the good wishes:)

Unfortunately I'm unable to be out of commission for a few days.  I'm doing okay, though, and I think I can make it through w/d's with the suggestions and support from this forum. I'm going to continue to taper and see where I am come Sunday or Monday.  My intention is to be totally tram-free by July 1.  Thank You:)

Hi, from what i know melatonin is mostly a sleep inducer, meaning that you don't sleep  more hours, i think ..so i would believe that it's better if you take the minimal dose and if you wake up in the middle of the night and have problems sleeping again, you could take another dose... One thing i have read here is that melatonin works better in the dark...

ok, good luck :)

In treatment they gave me 10mg of melatonin every night for 2 weeks. It worked really well for me. I hope it continues to work well for you! Good luck.
