Sleep paralysis. I had it A LOT while using oxy but since clean not once. Just goes to show how much that stuff screws with your brain huh?
this happens to me, but it's not before I go to sleep, it's right before I fully "wake up". It's kinda like a dream will end and my eyes are still closed, but I'm awake and can't move. It happens to me pretty rarely and hasn't happened in a long time, but has anyone ever had it in that reverse order? It scares the poo outta me!
I've had this happen to me numerous times. One time it happened and it felt as if I could see through my eyelids, standing in someones kitchen watching a family eat dinner and do things. As if I were a ghost or something. It was really really weird. It's not the first time something like that has happened either.
WOW...so its not just me...its such afreaky sensation when your wide awake but cant call out or move when youre straining every fibre of your being to alert the person in bed with you to the panic thats setting in your brain and nothing will work...its sooooo scary..i thought it was an aftershock of all the using at first but at the time i thought i was actually dead or dying... very odd indeed..phew
This use to happen to me if I took too many Percocet, God that still feels strange saying out loud. I was sooo scared, Couldve swore I was having seizures! So I got online, cause at the time nobody knew about my addiction, and also found sleep paralysis. I went cold turkey 5 days ago and didnt have them during w/d's nor do I have them now. THANK GOD!
Thanks guys. I thought I was crazy and never told anyone about the sleep thing. As I said, my sister and brother have it once in a while, too. I sure appreciate your replies.
I had it more often when I was in w/d from fentanyl. RLS, also.
I can't wait to try the cough thing, either.
Take Care.....peace.....LS
It happens to me occassionally......and I've read that it's pretty common (like Ga Guy said). Don't sweat it if it happens once in a blue moon....if it starts to really freak you out-and it happening a lot go to a sleep specialist.
Hmmm...I'll try the coughing thing Ga Guy.....thanks for the 411!
It's called sleep paralysis and is pretty common. It happened to me a lot during detox, but is getting less frequent. My therapist told me to cough the word "cough" when it happens. I have no idea why, but it kicks you out of it.
Thanks so much for your reply. You have no idea how much better I feel. I was starting to dread going to bed b/c I was afraid this would happen.
Please have a great day...peace.....LS
i forget the name they have for this. if it occurs regularly its considered a sleep disorder (i mean if you are aware of it happening - ) you do normally become partially paralyzed when you sleep- its your brain's way of preventing sleep walking/hurting yourself when youre alseep. Sometimes this mechanism gets a "faulty switch" so to speak and you are still partially conscious and aware this is happening. But anyways, the acutal function of being partially paralyzed when sleeping is real and normal, most of us just dont realize it happens cuz we're already more deeply asleep when it occurs.
