Heart attack or in my mind?

by Gingerale2008, Jul 27, 2008 04:14PM
Hello, After two nights of drinking it is now sunday, and for some reason i always get myself to think im having a heart attack or panic attack because i try to sleep and i cant and i think about things like heart attack and stuff, i do get all hot and sweaty because i do think about it and then my heart starts beating fast. I look at the symptoms online and i dont have like all of them but when i read them i start thnking of maybe i do... I went to the doctor 2 weeks ago and he said everythings fine my blood pressure is fine, liver fine, everything fine but i was just wondering if you think its all in my head and i make myself have like a panic attack?

Considering you were just checked out I think it's probably the alcohol....or lack of.  Do you get these feelings when you don't drink?  Do you drink to get rid of it?  You may have anxiety and alcohol can make the symptoms worse.  If your body is used to having alcohol and you go without, it will make it even more severe.  What other symptoms do you have and how often do you drink?  How much and how often, that will help us give you better suggestions.  I'd stay away from the alcohol for now.  Keep posting we want to help.

Sounds like a typical anxiety attack after a hard nights drinking.  It's hard to say if your anxiety is caused by the drinking or if the drinking is for covering up what it is that is "really" causing the attacks.  It can be a chicken or the egg thing.  Either way your brain/body are trying to tell you something.  You may have alcohol issues or you may have anxiety issues.. or both...  First thing to do is stop drinking and see how that goes.

2 cents..  Peace.

Is there a reason you decided to post your question on the addiction/substance abuse site?

Glad you're feeling better.  Sometimes you just need to rehydrate yourself.  Alcohol really dehydrates you and can make you feel crummy.

The reason why is because I did blow one night and thought i was overdosing but it turned out to be a panic attack and havent done it since, you check my last posts...so as soon as i had my first panic attack i had it 2 more times including today, but i dont do blow anymore.......i do feel better but i wanna sleeeppp and i know if i try to sleep im gonna think about having a heart atttack and its going to start over so i think im just gonna stay up lol

I suffer from panic attacks and what you're describing is typical for one. I can totally relate to the whole experience...I too have spent many nights awake checking for symptoms online...thinking I was dying. The good news is there are great treatments available for this disorder. I would go to the doctor and explain your experience...a psychiatrist if possible. Good luck to you!

how long did you use blow for and when was last time?? it causes anxiety and panic attacks long after use has stopped sometimes and im curious about if you were using it often. i remember laying in bed coming down from coke and everything you described ive had, including those scary thoughts. the heart beats extremely fast with sweating and trouble breathing, it's a very scary feeling. did u only use this one night?

by Gingerale2008, Jul 27, 2008 05:23PM
anddddddd i dont know why but my left pinky is numb, something to be concerned with? i feel better im just tired but i dont wanna sleep cuz panic attack might happen again

by Gingerale2008, Jul 27, 2008 05:25PM
last time was july 4th weekend

by gizzy32, Jul 27, 2008 05:28PM
listen man, i could be totally wrong so i apologize if i am, im just going by what your describing here ok. the day after coke use my digits and toes would go numb too sometimes and you can ask anyone that uses coke, it's scary to sleep, i not saying your using this drug, i just saw you said you used it one night, but if you have used it more than once, this could really be the effects of cocaine. how often did you use this drug?

by gizzy32, Jul 27, 2008 05:32PM
ok july 4th. not sure if that was a one time thing, but from my experience after finally quitting i do suffer from mild anxiety and the odd panic attack now, but i remember my first month off coke i had the same things going on that you have described and major anxiety. your young buddy, take care of yourself and don't get in deep with booze and drugs, it can be difficult to get out of. happy to see you posting and stay away from the blow, it will grab you before you know it. good luck

well when you have done some serious drinking the night before you can experience the rapid heartbeat the next day. but that is common for someone much older with a much older heart. alot of alcohol does affect our hearts. the tingling in your finger is another indication of poor circulation having to do with your heart also. are you also doing some heavy smoking when you drink? and then the next day the symptoms are gone? right?

you do not have to a raging alcoholic to experience this. you have just over done the drinking and smoking and your body is telling you- hey, that is not cool, knock it off.

by Gingerale2008, Jul 27, 2008 08:38PM
i dont smoke

i want to go to sleep but i don't want to because i keep thinking if i go to sleep then ill just have another panic/anxiety attack HELPPPPPPPPPPPPPP any tips?

by marcatj, Jul 27, 2008 10:35PM
i used to feel that way after drinking alot.

even if it was just on the weekend.  your body is detoxing the alcohol.

if this happens when you DON'T drink, you should see a psychiatrist if it's panic attacks. you don't have to feel this way, and panic attacks are very common. and you can get help for them.

but just because you're "drinking like a 20 year old" - if it happens after the booze - it's the booze...
