Hello and a few questions I need help with.

by Obsidian29, Oct 07, 2007 10:43AM
Hello everyone. Ive been reading here for a few months. Just decided to sign up today. I have a few issues that I hope you all could help me with cause I am kinda worried. Onto the show....

Im a 30 year old male and I got addicted to Percocet. It was the 5/325 dose. At my worst I was taking about 20-25 of them a day (the whole time I took them was about 2 years give or take). I finally decided to call it quits. I went about 36 hours without anything and the withdrawl was absolute murder. The sweats, nausea, headaches, etc etc.

So I figured I would need some help. I went to the local clinic and they treat patients with Methadone in liquid form where you go there everyday to get your dose. They drug tested me and found traces of narcotics still in my system so they said they could help me. If I didnt have any traces in my urine then they would not be able to help me.

So basically I am 5'8" and about 205lbs. They decided to start me on 30mg of Methadone w/ daily increases of 10mg until I plateau  out at 70mg at which point they would ween me back down till I was off of the Methadone. The first day was great. I didnt feel high, I had energy, and no withdrawl symptoms. The second day they gave me 40mg of Methadone. I still felt great but I noticed the slight feeling that I used to get when I had percocet. It wasnt as strong as with the percs though. I just assumed it was my body getting used to the Methadone and reacting cause I didnt have percocet. So that brings me to yesterday. They gave me a 50mg dose. Holy **** I knew something was wrong. By the time I got home I was "high" and after a few hours of this I started to get bad headaches, extreme nausea, I was out of it. I knew that was too high a dose. I didnt get to sleep till about 5am this morning and now I feel ok aside from a really rough headache. I feel normal. No withdrawl but no "high" either, which is fine for me.

So that brings me to my questions. First its a holiday here so they gave me 2 doses to take  home...both of which are 60mg!! One for today and one for tomorrow. I dont think I should take the 60mg doses if the 50mg gave me such trouble. Should I just not take anything at all till I can get to the clinic on Tuesday? Or should I take a partial dose? I feel pretty good and I think I can kick this myself. I dont want to feel like I did yesterday with the Methadone. I just dont want to damage my body. Its been about 6 days without percocet and that doesnt seem to bother me now. But Ive been on Methadone for 3 days and it made me sick. Should I continue and if I do...how should I approach the dosages?

Thank you to anyone who takes the time to read this and answer. I appreciate it greatly. I hope someday I can help someone who has a problem like this. Im anxious to get to know you all. Thanks again.

Thank you so much. I appreciate the support and I am anxious for an answer. But at the moment I feel pretty good. I dont know if its just "my normal self" showing through again or if its cause of the Methadone. Either way I dont like that stuff....I didnt trust it from reading on here and other sites, and I damn sure dont trust it now that it made me feel sick on my 3rd day. But I cant wait to get some input from you guys.

Just ate my first real meal in quite a while. Feels good. Ill beat this, but I still am curious about the Methadone. Ill check back in a little while. Thanks in advance again :)

methadone is the hardest drug of all to quit, DONT GET ADDICTED TO IT. my advise is if you have 120 mgs of it give it to someone who loves you and explain you are trying to get clean. dont take anything at all, in 24 hours you will feel cr@p, in 48 hours you will be begging your friend for some methadone, take the smallet amount you can, it will ease the suffering a little, then hang tough, aother 24 hours and another tiny dose etc etc, IF you can do this for a week or 2 you may find you are completely clean in 3 weeks from today?

if you continue with the methadone 'treatment' (< read pharmacutical company profit at your very MASSIVE expense) you may become like so many of the LIFETIME methaone maintanance people.

gettng clean require taking less and less drugs until were clean, not switching drugs.

ESPECIALY NOT METHADONE....RUN AS FAST AS YOU CAN FROM THAT EVIL EVIL DRUG.

Bro They seemed to have juiced you up too rapidly. The point is to stabilize not obliterate.Remember whenyou took the perks, you didnt take thr whole wack at once.I was on methadone for perks as well and, yes at firstr you get a little buzz, but, unfortionatly if thats what we are looking for,the dose will rise and rise and rise. Thats the problem. Just a suggestion stabilize maintain and taper down.I know many people who have stayed on to long and cant or wont come off. Goodluck johnnykelly

Very good idea to get help and support from a loved one......for an addict to have 120 mgs of Methadone is insane..........
If you purpose is to wean off percs I hope you have a plan of time in which to accomplish this...two weeks should be plenty........
Do you have a plan to stop soon?

Wow, thanks for all the info. I didnt realize it was THAT bad. But moving on..

Do you think I will still have withdrawl symptoms from either drug now? Its been 6 days without percocet and I was only on the Methadone for a grand total of 3 days. 1 dose at 30mg, 1 at 40mg, and yesterdays at 50mg. That sounds like a very short time to get as bad as that sounds. I dont know if it helps but there were almost 2 days between the last perocet and the first methadone. And the last time I took anything at all was yesterday at about 10am. Thats when they gave me the 50mg dose. After that making me feel so crappy I was hoping I could just kick both and be done with it.

And the only reason I have 120mgs right now is cause the clinic is closed today and tomorrow. It was supposed to be 1 dose at 60mg today, which so far I have skipped. And 60mg for tomorrow which I plan on skipping. If I continue to feel like I do right now I will just go drug free.

Thanks again for reading this. Im not trying to contradict anything said here I am just trying to get a better understanding of everything.

I never hear of raising a dose on a take home dose. I would get a increase on the weekdays but never a friday or take home day and what happened to you in the reason. If you feel you can do without anything than hang in there because you are right on the edge of the physical pains ending.
As bad as methadone can be if you stay on it to long, there are only acouple a ways to detox if your funds are limited and methadone is one of them and cheaper than Suboxone by far. I if you stay on Methadone for a very short time (2-4 wks max) you should be fine after. If are have a rough time this weekend, than just take part of you dose, you can tell how much you are taking. The clinic gives you a number to call if you have a problem. Tell tell you were fine at 30 mg and dont need to go up any higher. Did they just raise your dose or did you say something to them that you want to try a higher dose? They never gave me more unless i asked. Remember you get something like 14 days or so if you stop using it before they will drop you from the program so if you want to see how you feel after awhile and they want you to keep taking it, you can just stop on your own and you should know how you feel in that time.  Hope you feel better soon and back on your feet again.

Thanks for the info and support. The reason they raised my dose was because I was a new patient. Their plan was to start me on 30mg per dose. They want to raise it by 10mg a day till I was at 70mg doses. Stay at 70mg a day for a month, then ween me down till I am off the Methadone. So it went like this...

Thursday 30mg (inital paperwork/doctor visit and first dose)
Friday 40mg (still felt ok but felt a little "high")
Saturday 50mg (this made me extremely ill for over 24 hours)

Take home dose for Sunday @ 60mg (skipped)
Take home dose for Monday - Columbus Day @ 60mg (will skip this too)

Is it ok to skip these or will it hurt me to stop cold like this? I thought it would be ok since I was only on the Methadone for 3 days total so far. But if its not ok can I take a partial dose? After reading everyones comments I really dont want to get addicted to Methadone. Hell, if I wanted to be addicted to anything I would have stayed on the percs. By the way I am at 6 days with no percocet, which I am proud of, but now I worry about the Methadone.

Oh and one last question....is Methadone related to the street "Meth"? I have never messed with street drugs other then the occasional weed when I was younger. Thanks again for reading this.

Hello, it sounds like you are in Canada, so am I.  I was addicted to percs years ago but i had to do it cold turkey....really really bad week.  But it was over in a week.  I am now addicted to oxycontin and it is much worst for me.i am on day 12 today and still not even close to being better....please never try this drug...

I wanted to tell you that i had a friend bump up a post for me yesterday and it has alot of info on methadone. I will bump it up for you and it is called Nutrition for withdrawals (or something like that)  it is from Fladdict.  You are correct to be worried about that drug, from everything i have read it sounds worse than percs addiction.

Hello again. Actually I am in New Jersey, USA. But close enough to Canada (8 hour drive I think). Thanks for bumping up the post. I will go read it now. I had a friend that was hooked on the Oxy's. He has been clean for 2 years now. Stay strong and if my friend can do it then you can do it too. I wish I could do more to help everyone here cause I see how helpful you are for me. Just know that I am online alot and if you ever need/want to talk then I will do what I can.

As far as my support system goes...my wife is my rock to hold on to. She has a problem with percocet's as well due to a kidney problem. She has been on them longer then me and she was able to quit cold turkey. We both quit on the same day 6 days ago. She was able to do it. She is absolutely amazing.  We have 5 children and just decided that our family life was starting to get affected by our percocet addiction. She just up and quit like it was nothing. I dont know how...I guess she just has the willpower for it. I needed help. Now she is supporting my misadventures.

But enough rambling on here. I am going to read that post you suggested. Any other info that anyone has...please share. I am so thankful to have found this place and can learn all this info. Thanks again everyone.

I thought you were in Canada because of the holiday thing...it is Thanksgiving in Canada and tomorrow is a stat holiday.  I am happy you both decided to quit, I can tell you when it is all over you will feel like you have a whole new life.  I regret going on the oxy's but live and learn.  I wish you and your wife all the best.....come back with updates.  it has got me throught the past 12 days.....

Yes you were given too much methadone. Justlikeyou and Calzy gave good advice, don't get addicted to methadone. Only take a dose when you absolutely need to, that said, you have to drink the dose you've been prescribed on the days when you pick up from the clinic. So, you need to get your prescriber to lower your dose when you see them next. In the meantime, 1 ml of methadone equals 5mg, that means if you want a dose of 30 mg you need to measure out 6 ml of methadone.

Be clear with your prescriber that you only want a small dose of methadone and want to come off as quickly as possible and that you don't want methadone maintenance.

it took me 5 days to feel the effects of withdrawals from the methadone...it has delayed withdrawals...and they can last 30+ days, definately not something you want to keep taking...i would just try to take 5-10 mgs for no more than 7 days, that should be plenty of time to get you through the withdrawals from the percs..then wean yourself down off the methadone in a shorter amount of time...trust me you dont want to get hooked on methadone, its bad. and methadone is not the street "meth" your talking about, that is crystal meth...2 totally different drugs..but both are pretty bad.   your withdtrawals from percs (physical ones) should be over in 6-8 days...sometimes more, so try not to take a higher dose of the meth and for no longer than what your withdrawals from the percs would be...meth last a long time in your system, you could probably skip3-5 days without it and still feel fine....its a tough drug...

Welcome...... Methadone is a NASTY NASTY drug to be addicted to, i've been off it for about a month and it was... well, still is hell..!! So whatever you do.... do not let yourself get hooked on methadone. The headaces and nausea you experienced and not sleepin after your dose were perfectly normal.
The withdrawal from methadone almost sent me crazy! Depression, insomnia,  paranoia, hallucinations, pain, profuse sweating, hearing things, there were some stages during withdrawal where i forgot who i was. You have probably got the picture now!!! So my advice would be to keep well away and try to beat percs another way.

I still struggle to sleep now!!!!!
