Help! Altered prescription

I altered a prescription my doctor wrote the original script was written for Tramadol 50mg #50 I altered the script by changes the quantity to #150. I took it to a non chain (also known as a mom and pops) that I had never filled at. The pharmacist noticed it had been altered and called my doctor I heard him say to a nurse that it looked like I had changed the prescription and asked what it was supposed to be. The nurse told him 50 so he hung up and asks me of I altered it I said no he said okay and walked away. They filled all my medications I had brought including the #50 tramadol. So I'm wondering what could or will happen to me since he did not call the police on me right then. This was yesterday. The doctor has been my doctor for over 15 years its just a reg family doctor.

I agree this was certainly my ROCK BOTTOM I am only taking tramadol but I take a lot. About 20 50mg pills a day. I had a year and a half of clean time then the doctor suggested tramadol for my ruptured discs assuring me it was a non narcotic at the time it wasn't listed as a narcotic it was just listed in my state as one a few months ago. If I had known the extent of this drug I would have never started it!

Hi

Is Tramadol your drug of choice or are you taking other things, too?

s there a level of withdrawals you would be comfortable with? If so, you have numerous options besides Suboxone. That will just postpone the problem. I quit Tramadol 41 days ago. You can do it, too, if you are ready.

I was so terrified of the withdrawals from Tramadol that my first plan was actually to go see a psychiatrist and see what my options were, including exploring Suboxone. I got a push to fast-track the quitting (by way of packages getting delayed from my online pharmacies) and I'm SOOOO glad I did. Maybe this is your push?

I am astonished that the dr. let them fill it and that the pharmacy actually filled it exspecially since they are cracking down so hard on narcotic prescriptions.  Like the previous post said consider yourself lucky because the next time won't be so great.  I have never been on subs but when I decided to quit I considered it, but after hearing so many horror stories about it I decided to just quit myself using the thomas recipe to help.  Just do a lot of research on it and make 100% sure that is what you want to do.  There are a lot of options out there to help you quit.  Good luck to you!

I agree with the post above. How many are you taking daily? I would just start to taper slowly you should be able to do it with minimum w/d.
I wanted to add since that happened with your script I would think they might have red flagged you in the database. Idk about where you live but here we have a database that any medical professionals and pharmacies  can get in and see what DEA monitored medications where filled, how many, when, what doctor etc. They can also add flags so everywhere can be aware of what's going on. Plus it minimizes doctor and pharmacy shopping. Good luck

They write the units AND actually write it out. So even if you add a 1 to make it 150 its still written out at 50 and X per day.
Shocked he still filled it. Shocked

If it were me.....I'd NOT use subs to get off Tramadol.
The Health Pages at the bottom of this page are FULL of articles about subs.  I wish I had known all they had to offer.  Since you are taking trams now.....PLEASE go read ALL those articles that mention subs.  SO MUCH
info....take what you like and leave the rest..(MANY articles on subs, FAQ's etc)....BUT.....suboxone is a MUCH, much stronger opiate that would bind to your pain receptors....you need to equip yourself and be informed.....then YOU can decide for yourself.

I have heard nothing but horror stories about subs.Trading trams for suboxine is like trading someone poking u n the eye on accident with someone stabbing u with a knife n the eye.WOW that sounds scary as I wrote it.DO UR RESEARCH A LOT.Also lots of people with sub experience here.U might wanna make a new post asking just that about trams to suboxine.

Thank you everyone for the advice. This was really an eye opener for me i really hope nothing happens but i will never again alter a script. I have made an apt to see a doctor to start a suboxone tapering program though its going to cost me several hundred dollars I need to get off this stuff. I already went to rehab once in Florida a 2 yes ago for opiete and benzo's and was clean for over a year then the doctor have me tramadol for my back I have 2 ruptured discs and she told me it was a non narcotic so I started taking it and now here I am. I am married with two kids and I need to get my act together! Any advice about a tapering I can do or if suboxone is not the route I should go would be appreciated

To finish my info - the doctor or pharmacist would have to call the police and press charges. You would make a statement at the police station. Then the district attorney would would have to decide if he should try your case in court. You would probably be small potatoes enough if it is your first offense to spend the time and effort to take you in front of judge and jury. If he does not want to bother with you then nothing will happen. It will be in the computer that you were arrested but not tried or convicted. So really the only thing would be if you had a background check for a job and then you were not tried or convicted. The doctor or pharmacists might be reluctant to do anything legally because on the chance it did go to court they both would have to testify. That is the legal extent of this kind of thing. I just keep thinking though that by the time of your next appointment the doctor will know about it - nurses tend to be very thorough. If she was told it was altered she is going to check it out further. Sorry for the scarey info.

I agree with comment above that it is very strange that the pharmacists filled the tramadol. My brother ia a Lt with drug task force. He has told me stories of this kind of thing and if I remember correctly the pharmacist can get into trouble for filling it as well as yourself. I hats to tell you this but the pharmacist could have faxed a copy back to the doctor. But again he filled it - weird! And you have got to consider the nurse-she would more than likely told the doctor of the call and again might have had the pharmacists fax a copy back to them. Only your next visit will tell you for sure! You might want to head them off at the pass as they say and be ready to admit to them first that you have a problem - it might go easier. Also, per my brother's info, If you are arrested, the doctor w

I doubt anything will happen now; he filled the rx for the proper amount. There's no evidence you did anything wrong.

BUT YOU DID!  The penalty is huge for prescription fraud so I hope this was a good enough warning. You might be questioned by the doctor or his staff at some point in the future. It's up to you whether you want to admit you committed a felony...

Have you considered stopping the Tramadol?  We could help with that...

I agree with nursegirl.  Call your doc, admit your problem and that you altered the script and ask for help.

This is a chance to save yourself.

So, they filled the script anyway?  I find that odd.

Obviously, the gig's up.  The pharmacy knows it was altered, and the doctor knows it was altered.  You could find yourself in some legal trouble.

In your state (Ok), Tramadol has been changed to a Scedule IV Narcotic, which would mean the legal ramifications would be more serious than if it wasn't.  I personally would think hard about perhaps admitting to your doc that you have a problem, and ask for some help?

You could always have a consultation with a lawyer too, to kind of weigh your options.  If you do nothing and they pursue it, you'd be looking at some legal troubles.
