Help for first day off norco

I'm going to go ct tomorrow from using 8-10 10/325 norcos for the last 5 months.  Can anyone give me some suggestions on how to get through the first morning.  Also,  are the w/d easier since I've only been taking these for a short time?  I'm probably grasping at straws but I'm scared to death how bad they may be.  Any help or suggestions I'll take.  I'm like a lot of people on here (I've been reading a lot of posts) and I'm just tired of being held captive by the pills.  I have some left, but feel I'm stronger if I quit with some in the house....I'm just tired of it and would rather deal with my pain then keep counting pills...thanks for reading my post.

Hello Casey! How are you doing today??? Me not too bad, although i feel it kicking in, but i'm ready!
I just wanted to answer your question about if when you go to the ER and get pain med's will it set you back at day one? Well, the answer is yes!, But not exactly either! lol. What i mean is that as soon as your mind get's ahold of any hydrocodone, the receptors will automatically think that they are going to be right back to where you left off, but you don't have to allow that, even though they will make you want to! You will probobly feel the need to satisify the receptors, but that will pass within 1-2 days it's just a fight...

there is a chance that u will not have much trouble at all after 5 months...alot of it is how u feel...dont convince urself u will suffer...  then u will....i was at 80-100 mg a day for 4 years and felt flu-like for 4 days..each day was better with day one the worst..i still went for a walk that day but basically chilled in my house and stayed on the forum..i was expecting way worse than what actually happened to me..i have had the flu way worse than that 3-4 days of detox..how can it make u feel stronger to keep pills in ur house?  just curious on that one as i have never seen that cause anything but disaster

All of us wish you the best and I personally think you will make it without relapsing b/c I see the determination in your post.  Only one thing I would add - and it is an important one ------ DO NOT leave the door open ----- slam it shut ---- I mean, tell your doctor and cut off your supply ---- that gave me unbelievable strength.  As long as you know that you can return for more Rx in a weak moment, you will have a temptation that may be more powerful that your own will power.  Also please keep posting ----- share everything you are going through.  Oh, by the way --- yes, I agree - only 5 months should make it easier on you - --- only a few rough days of the 'flu' with some RLS and of course stock up on Immodium.  All the best.

Yes I've gone ct before..it was 3 years ago and I was on the 10/325s for over 2 years because of surgeries.  If was a living hell to get off of but I did it c/t and lived.  I remember the hell of it and was hoping with only 5 months this time it'll be easier.

Thanks for your honest if not frightening post!  I've read about so many things people take but no I have nothing for anxiety, is there anything otc that will help?  I do have Advil PM and am hoping that'll work so I can sleep some.
Something I'm worried about too is never taking another hydro again..the reason is I have a chronic condition, which believe me I plan on handling without pills, but every so often it will send me via ambulance to the ER where they hook me to a dilaudid(sp) IV or another equally strong med to get my pain under control.  When this happens..will it set me back to day one of quitting?  If so how does anyone survive???

Thanks again for your post.

I actually think you gave a decent amout of info for a 1st poste. So you've been taking 8-10 hydro's for 5 months and plan on going cold turkey tomorrow!?!. Do you have any anti anxiety pills around? When you 1st quit, along w/the itchy crawlys and restlessness, you will quite possibly feel a lot of anxiety. I know i do when quitting. When i went C/T, i just fought my way through it, and it was so hard! But i survived. The worse part was the depression that seems to set in right away! It took a little while for that to ease, but it also did! All you can do is fight fight fight! It's all worth it in the end!!! As soon as you have enough energy, try to go for walks and exercise! It helps produce endorphens and helps get your mind back in control of you life. The first morning will be hell, and probably the first week, but things get easier. W/D's seem to peak around night three, so be prepared. One thing you need to now though is that you can never touch another hydro again in your life.......it will bring you right back to where you are now...........actually farther!!!!!
Good Luck!!!

thanks for your words of encouragement..  Unfortunately, no I don't have a support system.  It's just me and my determination.  Nobody in my life realizes my problem, which I've hid well.  I have always been very strong and hope to be in this.
One other question....will the w/d be easier since I've only been taking these for 5 months?

Thanks,
Kasey

Yes I am planning on ct tomorrow morning.  I don't want to take any more pills. I had a typo in original post...I took my last two pills at 5 this evening and have no more in the house..I know I can't have them..  I'm just scared how I'll feel in the morning..will I even feel like getting out of bed..I've read so much about other doing c/t I'm just hoping for any suggestions, or personal experiences that got everyone through their first day.  I think if I make it 24 hours even if I feel like ****, I'll be proud of myself and continue...
Thanks for the quick response..I think I'll be using this place as a life line...

I don't have a lot of experience, just my own.  Each person is different.  I am on day 5 off of Oxy's and the first few days were horrible for me.  It was more mental for me than physical.  Don't get me wrong, the physical w/d's for me were awful as well. I had been taking Oxy's for 4 years. You need to have a good support system for one.  Without my husbands help I would have never gotten through this.  I felt like I've had the flu for the first three days and then on day four I felt a bit better.  Each day that goes by it gets easier.  Some people taper themselves by taking less and less each day.  I did the c/t route and that was best for me.  Just drink lots of fluids, imodium for the loose stools take hot baths and try to get some excercise when you feel up to it.  I went today and got some multi-vitamins for some energy because that has been low for me as well.  You can get though this.  Just stay strong and know that it will be all worth it in the end when you know that you are free of pills.  Keep posting on this site and ask as many questions as you need.  This site has been a life saver for me with all the support and everyones suggestions. Good luck to you!

Okay....all you've said is that you've taken 8-10 within the last 5 months.

Are you stopping cold turkey, or do you have any left at all?

I know, counting pills will make you more insane than we already are as addicts!

Kasey.............give more info & you'll get tons of responses.

It's Sunday late night, and the week days are much more busy.  Stick around!
