Help please.

My daughter has asked me to post for her...(She feels horrible with sweats/cold and flu like symptoms) and doesnt feel like moving off of the couch.  She has asked if there is anything that will alleviate the hot flashes/cold? She took her last 2 lortab yesterday and is absolutely going nuts...If anyone has an idea of what will help we will sure will appreciate it. She cannot go to an emergency room so hopefully there is something over the counter.

hi... as you can tell, some of us share a different view point on certain things.

i personally would give her the benzo's for the first few days..then that's it.  i do not call that enabling... but only for a couple days, maybe a week.

she's gonna have a rough couple days - she was taking alot of pills.  just know - and remind her - it will pass, and it will pass soon.  take it moment by moment.. she won't die from this.

after the first few days, once the severe stuff has passed, educate yourself (and/or come on here and we'll tell you) what kind of stuff she can expect afterward (the lingering effects ie depression, lethargy, etc.)   knowing ahead of time helps so when it hits, you know it's normal.

also - it is very important she get into some sort of program or counceling asap (once she's gotten thru the worst - and can function) to give her the tools to STAY clean.  believe it or not - this is the easy part.

she'll get thru it.  it will be rough.. but she'll gt thru it.

good luck...
wamrly,

She needs to get clean and doing meds to get off meds is not the way......you want to help her treat her like she has the flew.....
Make her some chicken soup.......something for diarehha ........some ice water to drink..........

3-5 days will go by like a flash then believe it or not this is the easy part the hard part the cravings triggers and all the other mental stuff will hit very hard to you have a plan for her after care so she does not start taking pain pills again?

Dont enable her support her and help her through 5 days of the flew........

I was worried about the xanax but the warning from people on this site made me only get 10 total...She has had the flu before and I know, I am trying to protect her...its just hard for me to see her suffer...I am very naive about drugs and she is a little bit of a drama queen...strictly for my benifit of course...LOL   I am really hoping that she will come to this site..I had printed out that Thomas Recipe and she gladly grabbed it and started reading...To me that is a positive sign!! Again thanks for the info...

you didn't mention anything about panic attacks or high anxiety that is the only reason why she should even think about taking a xanax...........

So many people here want to take pills to get off pills...........xanax is an addictive pill as well and very dangerous to get off of if your body becomes dependent on it.......

You have to change the way you think she doesn't need meds to get through this unless she wants to take some amodium for diarehha.........which you didnt mention..........

Hasn't she ever had a terrible flu before when she was growing up which last 3-5 days?
this is the same thing support her help her to get through it...........

Please tell her to stick it out for 3-5 days.................

If she get diarehha take some amodium............

other wise tough it out.....tell her she will have severe flu symtoms for 3-5 days and it will be all over and she does not need an ER........

Well if she is telling the truth...30 to 40 a day...10mg lortabs... She has been trying to taper over a 2 week period....she took 2 yesterday and none today.

I would say it is not by choice but she is out of money and job.

Xanax will help calm the jitters and the restless leg that comes with the withdrawals. There's some information on all of this on my profile page you may want to read. It will answer many of these questions. Just click on the blue Ga Guy link to the left of this post.

Benzo's are benzodiazapine's like klonopin, atavan, xanax, and valium. They can be helpful for detox because they will calm you down..but, are not to be played with because they are as addictive or more so than opiates. A week, two at the most is all you would need to take them.

Clonidine is not a benzo, however I still think getting it over the internet is not the way to go.

Alyssam- call the local pharmacy and see what they say. Just because we don't know of anything OTC doesn't mean there isn't something

benzos are illegal from the internet .So she would not want to take the chance. .If you could find the clonidine by the time you got it she would bethrew  the worst. I know she is really sick right now and the next few days will be rough but she will get threw it .

clonidine is a class of drugs called alpha-blockers, most other blood pressure meds are beta blockers, so you can't just take any one.

The only thing that really helps with the cold sweats, etc is clonidine. Does anyone in your family have high BP? They may have some clonidine. Does she not have a way at all to get any?

There really isn't anything OTC that helps with this, showers can help. Also if she hasn't started taking Immdoium pills they also can help take the edge off some of the symptoms.
Clonidine which you have to get from a doctor is the best thing to help with the sweats/chills
