Help when can I get off the methadone

I was smoking 1 gram of H every day and now I am on 50 mgs of methadone a day. I used daily for about 8 months and did taper down to 1/4 of h a day for a week until I went into the clinic. I just started this treatment two weeks ago. I am also experiencing some pancreatic problems and I don't drink. I am in a financial hell situation. I have pawned items, I have 4 payday loans out I am going to have to start paying 80 a week for my methadone treatment and I cant afford my regular meds. I work two jobs and am just not making enough and I am a month behind on rent. I would just move into a shelter until I could get these bills paid off but I have pets. I want to know how long I will need to be on the methadone until I can taper down?  I am all alone I really don't have any friends I can talk to about this as no body knows.

So glad your here. I'm 33 days off methadone. I'm so glad I did this. It was difficult but I'm starting to feel great. I have an occasional wave of wd but mostly I feel better than I have in 7 years. Please keep posting. There is so much support on this site. Several people with lots of clean time off methadone. I did everything they said. I stopped at 20 mg a day. I go to an AA meeting every day. There's not a regular NA by me. I got clean off crack in 1996 using NA. Then developed medical problems chronic pain, 2 back surgeries with hardware ended up on methadone.
You can do this.
Welcome:-)

Hi-   Well, you can really taper off any time, right?  It's your choice; no one can force you to take it.  Are you in any type of a program for aftercare? That's the most important thing.

The longer you're on methadone, the more difficult it will be to detox. So, do you think you "need" to be on it?  Or do you think you can stay clean and take care of all your business and get on track?  I think you can get on track if it's something you really want.

And to let you know I definitely know where you are coming from I'm an ex herion addict myself was addicted to it for 3 years a year abd a half that I snorted it and the other half was shooting it. My life was completely out of control hell I was out of control!  I'm happy to say tho thats I have over 3 and a half years clean now thanks to subutext saving my life maybe that would work better for you, could try that route.  I know I owe my life to this drug but it like anything else you don't want to depend on to long or you will have a hard time getting off of them. Hope I can help in some way just let me know!

Did depends on how long you have been using but the sooner the better! U just want to be clean at least long enough to really want to stay clean. Get your mind in the right place if you know what I mean. Have you had any treatment or going to meetings anything like that?
