Help with 20 year old son with drug abuse

Our son started to smoke canabis over a year ago this we are sure has progressed but we are not sure whats happening to him. at the moment we are considering having him sectioned under the mental health act for his own safety, here i will brieifly describe the actions that are greatly worrying us.

We have tried everything we can so far, understanding, talking, advising, listening and basically trying to be good but firm parents.

He is now having violent and aggetated outbursts, grey skin, sunken eyes, telling us he has cut somebody up, telling us about black magic, following the northern star, white magic, wizards, told us we are not safe in our house, telling us all sorts of big dealers are out to get him and that hes going to get a stabbing......

We really are at our wits end and are going to contact the GP but does anyone have any similar experiences that they could share with us.

We feel like we are the ones that are going crazy.

Many thanks

He's 20 and experiencing psychosis from the drugs more than you may know about. You won't be able to get him to listen or agree in his present state so you may have to intervene in his best interest and guide those who will help him to keep him comfortable while detoxing off this poison with the least amount of anxiety and suffering and monitor this for him! The psych wards will give him minimal anxiety meds to get through this and maybe psych meds which in themselves can cause similiar or same symptoms not all meds are tolerated in the same way as we are all unique makeups.  Save his life NOW.  I have a son, and would aggressively support his recovery in the most comfortable setting and treatment.  Be careful alot of people or treatment centers are inhumane.  Help him get the best treatment and use
common sense about it.  Keep us informed.  In my prayers.

I don't have a lot of advice on this topic, but I feel like others here may be able to help you out a little more. I am mainly posting to get this thread moved up. I feel like there are more people that can help that may not have seen this thread. My advice would be the same as the previous posts. Get him to treatment now. If you have to have a mental health commitment placed on him, do it. He doesn't know what is good for him now, and it sounds like he is spiraling. Good luck to you!

Have you tried going to an Alanon meeting? Alanon is for friends/family of alcoholics, and now a days addicts, to join and help eachother in support of dealing with their loved ones problems. You can look it up online and find a meeting close to you, or call the 24hr hotline for more information on meetings.

grey skin and sunken eyes sound like me when i was smoking crack.

does he have what look like burns on his thumbs?

crack has a little bonus known as cocaine psychosis, which "resembles paranoid schizophrenia and can bring on paranoia, mania, and psychosis."

i agree with IBKleen . . . whatever's going on with him, it sounds like he needs help immediately.  i was forced into treatment i was in really bad shape and it was the best thing that ever happened to me.

Hi,

I am guessing you are in Florida? If so, get him into treatment immediately before he harms himself or someone else, including you. Waiting is only making it worse.

Anything anyone here will tell you will be a guess. At the center they will drug test him so they know what they are dealing with.

Let us know how you make out.
