Help with Experince

My Dr. wants me to go on Cymbalta, to re up my good endorphins, he says they are burnt out from a couple years of eating oxys.He is detoxing me off the oxys right now with much lower dose, started on sub and he said get off those and just wean,so now he has me on 5 mg 3x a day vrs 40 mg 3 times a day, pretty drastic change after 2 yrs and then i went on Sub for 20 days and stopped and it has been rough, He says to just take one with the 5 mg oxocodone in the morning and it will help huge when i come off these things, he also gave me valium to help me sleep but ive only eaten 2 of them in 2 weeks at nite to sleep as sleep has not been real good lately. Cant stand the way they make me feel.I havent taken the cymbalta yet but plan on it today but before i do i want some input, ive allready researched incompatible drug reactions and it says nothing about what im taking now..Any one done anything similar at all ? Help...Thanks

It doesnt matter what time of day you take your cymbalta because it has a long half life. I take mine at night just because when I first started it, it did make me tired.

I have never had the Cymbalta make me sleepy and im now on 180mg a day sometimes i take it all in the am and sometimes split half am half pm. It never has made me sleepy or hyper but if i miss a day i do start to feel like electric shock feeling hit'n me. Cymbalta will then your blood so you may be having some type of reaction to it, it may be another med you are on and the both of them togather might be doing it. I would talk to my pharmistist bout it.

Yesterday i emptied half the little balls in the pill, i still felt it but not as extreme,It made me tired too.If it continues to make me tired its worthless, i need to be able to function at work. Thats why the taper to begin with.Im afraid to eat the Cymbalta till almost done with work, Does anyone take theres in teh pm rather than the am? I just want to get thru all this and be able to live without being addicted to anyting and again , ihave no plan on staying on this long term, i have a friend who has done this 3 times  over the years and the last time he stayed on them for 3 months and that was a yr ago and he is doing great.Im not deprresed over my life ohter than the fact im hurting from the withdrawl and of course that is depressing in itself, about abusing Valuims, when i was just out of high school i use to take mini whites and go do piece work framing and make some really good money and then i would take valuims sometimes to come down and sleep if i ate too many, i also use to drink to come down, without sleep im worhtless and i know  it , but back then we all did this and it seemed normal believe it or not. and when i was young i could bounce back and get away with that stuff, that was 30 + yrs ago, things have changed and i havent done that stuff for 20 yrs or drank for about 12 to 15 yrs, Thanks for everyone sharing with me....

First. right out of the gate, I've tried almost every so-called anti-depressant, including Cymbalta, over many years, and I'm not a fan.

That being said, I won't fall into the "absolutism" trap about these drugs. Many people report how helpful taking these drugs are to them -- it's all about the individual and the particular drug. Cymbalta (duloxetine) was Eli-Lilly's response to Effexor (venlafaxine): they were losing a huge chunk of market share not having an SSNRI to push (think of, say, Prozac/Zoloft/Paxil/Luvox  -- selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors -- with a second neurotransmitter targeted (norepinephrine = noradrenalin, hence the "N" in SSNRI), so they kind of rushed things for $$$ ... Cymbalta, by the way, is one of the pharmaceuticals at the centre of a class-action suit, due to a number of serious liver problems. You can find the details by searching on the internet. Speaking of searches, there's an article at this site about whether a/d's are of any value to depressed persons. Lots of food for thought.

Soooo ... good luck -- sounds like you're very serious about getting away from narcotics. We're rooting for you.

Last observation: You mentioned having Valium. If you haven't abused this drug or other benzos in the past, I think you'll find that taking more than "chips," and as prescribed, you'll find it very helpful for sleeping, or at the very least, calming you down through all this.

Hope this helps.

I take cymablta and it works really well for me. The first few days I started taking it, Iwas extremly exhausted!! But after about 3 days I started feeling better. It took about 2 weeks for it really to start working. so hang in there and give it a couple of weeks to work before you stop taking it

Well i took a 30mg one and about 2 hrs later it kinda wiped me out,Felt wierd for lack of a better description and then really tired and had to lay down. This is on top of partial withdrawl too.I think 15 or 20 mg would be better,He wants me to eat 1  of these 30s for 2 weeks and then go to 60! I dont know about that, i feel like taking a capsule and pouring 1/2 out when i take one tomorow..This is not going t be a permanet thing. Im just tryijg to folow Dr instructions best i can for what works for me to taper complete and still be able to function and work, as that is a no option...Any one else have anything on this, ? Thanks for all the replies..

Thank you everyone ,Sorry about the confusing post, im still feeling rough. Here it is, When i came off the oxys, 2 yrs worth, my pain mngt Dr put me on Subs. I went to my regular Dr and he said my pain Dr was too lazy to walk me thru a real wean process and and is ,shall we say  not very pro Sub.As it is highly addictive and very hard to come off for most, i jumped off a 2 mg and it was rough, so he gave me Valium of which ive only ate 2 in 2 weeks, and not whole either, i broke them into pieces ,at nite as i could not sleep. He also gave me oxocodone 5mg and said to take once 3 x a day and Cymbalta 30 mg once a day.I hope that clears the confusion from my original post, No im not taking Suboxone anymore and havent since about 2 weeks ago, i was just afraid to take the Cybalta, Thanks again..

like mary..i am confused...may have been misread..but is ur dr telling u to take sub and oxy each am?  or cymbalta and oxy?  but if u were on sub for 20 days why r u still on oxy?  can u clarify?

I was also on cymbalta as it is a fibromyalgia drug for pain as well as an AD//lyrica and nuerontin are also fibro drugs for pain..as well as other things....cymbalta nor lyrica agreed with me..when i was on cymbalta I did not give a flying F about anything!  I would stay up til 2 on work nights, drank too much etc...like i lost my responsibilty mode or sumpin...i am not high strung to and this AD works well for some/my riend loves it..it is a potent AD compared to most on the market..i tried it for 2 months and when my hair dresser saw a chunk of my hair that had fallen out//i stopped it....everyone is different and if ur doctor says to try it, then i would and c how u react to it...it is a good drug for many people....and if it helps u stay clean then it is worth it...be safe cos if ur dr is telling u to take sub and oxy every morning then i would question his judgement

I take Cymbalta 60mg twice a day.  I started out on 30mg for two wks. and then 60mg.  I started on 60 x 2 a mo. ago.  Also take remeron at night for sleep.  Also taking neurotin x 3 a day.  I like the Cymbalta, it has helped me with the really low spots since withdrawl.

Sorry I'm confused.......is your doctor giving you Suboxone with Oxocodone ?  As far as the Cymbalta It is very effective on depression and pain. The only thing is you need to taper off it or you will feel sick. It's great that your doctor is helping you get off the Oxy just don't let him load you up on too many other meds. It's too easy to swap addictions.

yes, i have taken the cymbalta. i had been trying to quit vicodins and had a very emotional relationship break-up at the same time. first time in my life- depression bad. it took a couple of weeks to notice a change. it does not make you feel high or anything. i did notice if i forgot to take it i would be real edgey, like mad about nothing.

i think it helped me while i was quitting because i did not experience any depression at all. instead , surprisingly, i had real feelings once again after quitting the vicodin.
i continued to take it for a couple of months after i think and then i slowly weaned off it.
i would open the capsule and pour a little more out until it was nothing. didn't notice a thing and was not edgey afterwards.

the doctors always want to up the strength of the cymbalta for no reason. i think maybe they get kickbacks for it. i declined and he insisted. so i just poured half out of them. hah.
altogether, i took it for like 4 months maybe at the most. it is VERY expensive if you do not have insurance.
