Help with Hydrocodone addiction & quitting....

Well, this is the second time I have tried this.  I originally posted and tried to quit back in January and it didn't work.  It is now August and after being laid off in March and my unemployment running out in a week, I have to get my life under control, for real this time.  I only have 8- 750mg hydrocodone's left and am really trying to figure out how I am going to do this.  I have been reading a lot online about Suboxone and I'm wondering if anyone here has ever used it or know anyone who has had some success with it.  I would feel embarrassed telling a doctor that I was addicted to pain killers but at this point, I have to do whatever it takes to get my life back.  In fact, to tell you how bad our addiction is, we just got busted Friday by my in-laws for taking over $5000 out of their bank account.  Just so you all know, they have over $200,000 left in there so it's not like we took their last bit of money but we did, because of this horrible addiction, do something that we are both very ashamed of.  Because of that, I have left our house until things die down and have decided to come to my mothers house in the country to try and do this again.  I have one more unemployment check coming and if needed, will pay cash for a doctor visit to get me on suboxone.  My questions about it are:  How much does the prescription generally cost with no insurance?  Do you only have to visit the doctor once to get on the medication?  At what point do you start taking the med. (after you start w/d'ing or after you take your last pill?)  Once you are on the medication, do you have any withdrawal symptoms or does it completely get rid of them?     If anyone has any information, personal experience, or knowledge on this drug, please let me know.  As always, I appreciate anything anyone can give me here.

Have u tried CT?   Have u tried any aftercare?  Have u tried in any way to quit?   if the answer5 is yes to all of those questions then sub may be ur answer...here/for 10,  8 mg suboxones was 100 bux....and it depends on whether u wanna use the avoid wd 21 day thing/to avoid sub addiction/which many say is worse than their doc wds..or whether u use it long term to stay clean...we all know wds are the easy part    staying clean is f-ing tough...sub wont cure u..only u can do the work...sub will get u off the streets...but for hydro users it can even be a preferrable buzz//was for me...i liked the buz from sore than hydros/
methadone is 13 dollars a day/more inconvenient cos u gotta go each day...91 bux a week....sub is a bit more expensive than methadone as a rule if u do not have insurance t cover it...do the work///go to meetings whatever route u choose..or u will end up addicted to sub....a narcotic as well....then u have that on ur back

in the end..for most of us..narcs will turn on us...make us feel depressed rather than "great"  "euphoric"   educate urself...learn what ur choices r..make a plan and stick to it..at this point i would imagine u 2 are using to acheive a sense of normality...not really even a high anymore...keep posting

I agree with Leesigettingclean in that YOU HAVE TO FEEL THE WITHDRAWL in order to GET and STAY CLEAN!!  (such a good statement!).

Hang in there and keep on posting...

and... remember that EVERYDAY THAT WE DON'T USE IS A BETTER DAY THAN WHEN WE DO!

Prob not a good idea to go benzo route, even if you have not abused them YET the risk is still there. I did take klonopin the first time for about a week, but i do not suggest it to anyone. You need to feel the pain of w/d so you know what you have did to your body and so you have a memory of why not to use again

Ambien won't help. It might make you feel a little better for a couple of hours, but that's all. A benzo with a long half-life is better, like valium or klonopin. But if you have ever abused any anti-anxiety drugs RUN away from all of them. Don't risk trading one addiction for another.

I used vistaril ( an anti-histamine) in detox and am still using it sometimes. It really does help with anxiety. Benadryl might help and it's otc, but some people become dependent on it too. Just be careful. Get as much support from foods as possible. Bananas are a really good idea, they help promote sleep as well as helping with restless legs.

Hang tough,

Gins

be carefull with the ambien, lots of people have bad experence with them, plus unless they are ambian cr then they only help you fall asleep but they dont help you stay asleep, so it prob be pointless  to take em, the w/d would just wake you up. Ambian is made to enter your body , knock you out, get out off your system so you not droggy the next day. Dont know if that helps. Anyways i would just take some tyl pm or simply sleep, prob aint much gona work. Lack of sleep has always been the worst w/d for me. You can do this, you have to before you lose evrything. Also you need to figure out what people do when they and there spouse is addicted cause i dont know but i would think it would make it harder to stay clean. Good luck

Well, I just took my last dose of hydrocodone and am trying to get ready for the withdraws that are soon to come.  I cannot go to a doctor so I am running around the house trying to find things to help.  I have immodium, a sinus medication, theraflu, but nothing to help me sleep... I think.  I found a bottle of Ambien (I think that's how you spell it) and I'm wondering if they are helpful with the detox / withdrawals.  If anyone knows, please let me know.

Thanks!

you can find the thomas recipe and amino acid protocol at the bottom right of the page, also get bananas, immodium, gatorade or poweraide. you will feel like you have the flu for about a week but getting better everyday. the bananas and hot baths are for the rls, immodium for bathroom problems and gatorade or poweraide for stomach. you need to eat when you can and try to get some exercise, even if it is just walking around the room. good luck..continue to post and read other post

Sorry, forgot to be specific.  Yes, my wife and I are both addicted severely!!  As to how many we take.... Well, as many as we have or can get.  There have been days where between the two of us we only take 30.  Then there are the "real good" days where between both of us we can take 50+.  It all depends on what we have or can get like I say.  I don't think the in-laws are really going to do anything about it, they are just really, really, really, like I've never seen before pissed.  The bad thing is, they are addicted to them twice as bad as we are and now I talked to my wife on the phone tonight and they are telling her that she is going to rehab or going to jail.  I don't know what's going to happen, if anything at all.  I think they are just talking about their ***** but you never know if there is any truth to things an addict says.  I know that from first hand experience.  I'm anxious right now.  I'm worried about how this is going to go this time.  It's always when I'm almost out that I wish I could have or would have put some up so I could taper down.  I never think about that when we have 120 or more, it's always when I get under ten and say to myself "This is it, I'm ready to quit!  I'm tired of worrying about where we are going to get them or where we are going to get the money!"  I just keep thinking, if my wife and I can quit a $300 a day meth habit and never relapse, surely I can make it through this, but it seems very scary right now.  I guess at that price and more than one doctor visit, the Suboxone is out of the question but what are those other things you talked about and how do they help with the process.

I quit in February this year.   I hope you will make the decision to jump when the pills are out.  Don't need any laying around.  Get the Immodium, a heating pad, otc arthritis strength pain meds, benadryl, melatonin, hylands restful tea for RLS, hot baths.   I wish you could just go to a Dr. and tell him you are detoxing off pain meds and need help (Clonidine and perhaps a few tranzene).

Go with the detox,  know that you will be well (better) in 5 to 7 days.  Hunker-down and go with it !  You will be okay and clean soon too !!

Addiction can make people do dumb things that they wouldn't do otherwise,  I hope you will make the decision to stick thru the detox.... and the recovery,  well, that lasts forever.  No going back.

How many vicodin were you taking daily? usually the doctor will prescribe suboxone on the first visit but you are required to return every week or two to begin with. also suboxone is very expensive anywhere from $700 to $900 a month and alot of insurances wont pay for it. From my understanding you have to be in full blown withdraw before starting the suboxone but vicodins have a short half life so usually the next day after you have taken the last one.

What are your in law going to do if any thing about the stolen money? and you said our addiction, is your spouse addicted to vicodins too? It doesnt really matter how much money they have it still is a crime to steal from anyone. not meaning to bust your chops but you need to face reality at this point. you also said you were unemployed you have to get all the vicodin out of your system before apply for a job because most do a drug test.

you have come to the right place, there are lot of people here that are more knowledgeble about suboxone than me. We are here to help and support you not judge.

Check out the thomas recipe and the amino acid protocol, they will help if you have to go c/t. also there are other thing that will help. bananas, gatorade hot baths..

good luck, continue to post and read other post. there will other on line tomorrow.
