Help

Im trying to quit vicodin and tramadol, I have been a on an off user for almost 15 yrs . Lately I feel so bad even when taking medication. I just dont want to exist. Does anybody knows how long a withrawal lasts for a heavy user? please help. I'm trying to quit on my own since I do not have money for detox, and regular doctors just wont help they tell me to go to a support group. Over the years I have been at the hospital once, I do not know what they administered to me because I was all gone, and just sent me home. I have been to my doctors only to find out i have to do it cold turkey because they will not help me taper the medicine. I am so ashamed to tell my family about it because I already had them go thru my withrawals. I am unemployed and can doit anymore
Please Help

Hi Skittles and welcome aboard. The prior two posts offer great advice on dealing with tapering and WD. I will focus on relationships as you are concerned about telling your family.

Progres can be painful but it is worth it. I would strongly encourage you to tlak with all of your family menbers individually and do three things each time. First tell the person what you did to hurt them while you have been using and be very specific here, second sincerely apologize to them for yopur erong doings and third tell them what you are going to do to ensure to the best of your ability that it doesn't happen again.

The truth will help mend some fences. You have to do thsi one step at a time but this si a huge one. Moving forward your actiuons will speak much louder than your words. You have to walk the walk.

NA is an excellent option fgopr you as they will keep you lovingly accounatable. Naranon is an outlet fr your family memebers..

Please continue to post.

That is good advice.  Tramadol needs to be tapered.  How much of each are you taking a day?

Hi, skittles, welcome to the forum..

we will try helping you, ok ? :) first of all, the issue of tramadol,... it was not my doc but i know that it has to be tapered.... it is not safe c/t...

about the vicodin, there are some advices you could follow in order to feel a liitle better... expect a really bad flu week but it is doable, so of course, YOU CAN DO IT ! :)
you could read the thomas recipe and the amino acid protocol ( health pages, right side of the screen ) and i gonna copy a list of advices we give here , ok ?

after detoxing, you should think seriously of some kind of aftercare.. NA meetings, therapy , addiction counselor.. what it can work for you because we really need addressing our problems and addictive behaviour...

stay here posting and telling us how you are doing.. and some people with exprience with tramadol will come and help you about it, sure :) good luck !!!

immodium ( diarrhea )

advil

a good vitamin complex and a good B's ...

some magnesium ( best chelated )+calcium supplements... to help you with muscle cramps and aches

potassium rich food... apple/orange juice  , bananas, spinach, raisins, nutcrackers..

a good chicken soup, tomato soup, eat as healthy as possible ...some protein shakes.

this is very important, .....drink a lot of fluids to keep you hydrated ... gatorades, green tea ( theanine on it, will help your mood and to relax), tonic water ( it has quinine and it will help you with RLS )

Hylands restful legs to help you with RLS , hylands cramps legs

maybe some natural stuff to help you with sleep like melatonin and valerian root ( good for anxiety too and it helped me with the stomach cramps , imo).

lots of hot baths ( with epsom salts if you have them ...)

start with walks and some light exercise as soon as you can to boost your endorphines, enjoy the sun ... exercise will really help you a lot to feel and heal :)
