Help.........What works best for sleep with tramadol withdrawal.

by the love bug, Oct 05, 2008 12:23PM
I am a 38 yr old female who is on day 4 going cold turkey quitting Tramadol.  I was using about 4 pills (200mg) daily or at least every other day and also drinking alcohol on top of that : <!!!  I decided to quit taking them (well actually I ran out and am too ashamed to have them refilled) last Thursday (this is day 4).  I have had a terrible time sleeping, very restless.  Also, TERRIBLE bodyaches, cramps, flu like symptoms (I actually thought I had the flu at first), today the diarrhea has started.  My main questions are 1. How long will this last?  2. What works best for the restlessness at night/sleeping? I have a very addictive personality and have been using different drugs over the past 4 yrs (percocet, lortab, tylenol with codeine, fioricet with codeine, etc), just to give you guys an idea of how long this has been going on. I have only been taking the Tramadol for about 6 months (no other drugs).  Any advice will be greatly appreciated, as well as any prayers!

Honestly nothing seem to work the first several days but you are on day four so it should start getting better very soon.Day 4 was the day I finally got some sleep .try sublingual melatonin and a magnesium calcium supplement .

Quitting tramadol cold turkey is ill-advised.  Your doctor should've told you and prepared you for a taper.  Tramadol lowers the seizure threshold.  Cold turkey can be dangerous with ultam/tamadol.  Talk to your doctor.  the half life is a day or two so your w/d's will hit hard around day 5-7.  Please call your doc tomorrow and talk to him about this.

In addittion to the melatonin I would advise using benadryl (up to 100mg) - or sleepytime celestail seasonings tea.... and dont forget a hot bath ..
