Heroin Craving

Hi,

I just talked to friend that I had lost contact with and  found out that he used to be a heroin addict for years and now he is clean for two years. I have no experience with addiction of any sorts. He told me that he still struggles with heroin craving and it is still very hard for him not use it.

We are supposed to meet and I was wondering if anyone how has been through this have any recommendation for me? What should I tell him? Should I ask him about his addiction time? Is there anything I can do to help him? Any over the counter drug? How long the heroin cravings usually last?

We used to be very close but we lost contact and I feel so guilty for not being there for him through all the hard time!

Mary, If you think a pill will simply stop the cravings...I am saddened to tell you that you will be back. While the pill may work down the road, there are other things that need to be addressed on the road to recovery. I wish you both the best and I will keep you in my prayers.

You may want to speak with him about getting counseling and getting to the root of his problems. It does not sound like he is in touch with the things that trigger him and, if that is true, he is in a bad place. It must be very scary for him. I hope he gets the help he needs.

Thanks for your response. Actually he has even changed the city he is living now but he said there are still many triggers that he cannot avoid!

Can you give me the name of the pills? One reason that it was very hard for me to find him was that he does not use internet, he told me it is because he can not do anything that can bring addiction. It is very easy for him to get addicted to different stuff. So I am trying to see if there is any resources here that I can help him with.

You are a good friend. I think that your friend wants to talk about thier addiciton or they would not have wanted to get together with you. Let them talk and ask questions to keep the conversation going.

Your friend sounds serious about wanting to stay off of drugs. My guess is that you were good friends before they started using drugs. Recovering addicts need to get rid of the circle of popel they hung around wit while on the drug and return to heir lief prior to starting drugs.

Encourge them to contact NA (Narcotics Annymous) with questions that they may have, They are a good source of information.

Don't feel guilty about not been there in the hard times as they were nit redy thn and they were not interested in anyhting but getting high so those efforts would have been futile anyway. Right now is the time for you to help your friend.

Tell him to check out Crave Control pills, you buy them online. These pills have worked wonders for me with cravings. Maybe he's still around the same people or places he was around when he was using so he's around constant triggers - some people have to change their friends, hobbies, and sometimes even places where they reside to get away from their triggers.
