Heroin Detox Help

Before I even ask my question, if you are going to be mean, please don't respond. I am here to ask people's opinions on getting clean, not to hear how much of a piece of **** I am and stuff like that. Okay, so, here goes. A few years ago, I had a problem with pain pills, more specifically, oxies. I managed to get myself clean and August 2011, I had made it to a year. However, in July, I suffered my first miscarriage at 7 weeks.  In December, I had my second, again at 7 weeks, and it set me off. In January, I just couldn't deal with anything and relapsed, only instead of doing pills, I started to use heroin intravenously. I recently found out I am pregnant again, and have made it past 7 weeks - I'm almost 11. I spoke to my doctor about my problem and she told me the only thing I can do is go to a hospital where I live because they have a methadone treatment specifically for pregnant women. However, I have a 2-year old and no one to watch her and would have to stay in the hospital for three days, which will be impossible.

Is there any advice that anyone can give me on detoxing at home? I've read several forums already about other people asking for help for detoxing at home but every situation is different, and I have not read anything similar to me, with being pregnant and all. I read something about the Thomas Recipe, but have not been able to find it on google.  Any help at all would be great. Thank you very much for taking the time to read this and respond.

Hi,
I am glad you found this site & I am sorry you are going through all this right now.  I detoxed from pain pills, but I am sure someone with experience with detoxing from heroin will respond soon to you.  Are you sure you can't find someone to help you with your two year old?  Even if you are able to detox at home, I couldn't imagine trying to watch a 2 year old and going through that.  I remember someone saying that there is a rehab for moms where their babies can stay with them.  I wonder if that is a possibility for you.  Admitting this to your doctor was a great first step, so feel good about that.  Hang tight, I am sure people with more advice will post soon. You are not alone.

Thank you for your response. Oxy detox isn't much different than heroin detox, the heroin is just much more intense. I don't talk to my family so none of them will help me with her (plus, after what I went through with them while I was doing the oxies, I could never tell them that I've been using heroin - my mother would take me to court to get my daughter taken off me) and with my boyfriend's work schedule, he can't help me either...he leaves for work at 6AM and her day care doesn't open until 7 during the week. I am trying to make this as painless as possible and the methadone is the best option for that, it's just a matter of having someone watch my daughter for those three days. It ***** that I can't do suboxone treatment while pregnant. I gotta figure something out so I can take care of myself and stop putting my unborn child through more damage.

Hi,

I am sorry you are finding that people don't understand you and your situation. No one here would EVER judge you. This is a great, safe place to come for support and I am glad you found your way here.

Heroin is my DOC and I have detoxed off of it many times in many different situations. That being said, I never did it while pregnant. I don't think anyone here is qualified to give you a medical answer and it is dangerous to listen to strangers on the internet when this is so important and you have so much at stake.

I think you need to go back and speak with your doctor. Methadone is tough and I don't want to see you getting stuck there. Suboxone is another route they go so you may want to ask about that. Please, listen to your doctor and make your decision based on YOUR situation. Let us know how you are doing.

You are in my thoughts and prayers.

Hey, I just wanted to let you know that I used while I was pregnant.  I wish I had the courage to seek help.  Heroine is also my DOC.  Seeing as I have been in your situation my heart goes out to you.  I know in Canada there are centres that you can go to that let you keep your children with you as you go through the process.  It is so important that you have an open and honest dialogue with your doctor.  I admire your courage and your strength.  IF you are wondering what I did, well.... I used throughout my whole pregnancy.  As soon as I found out that I was pregnant I tried to stop.  I thought that my baby was going to save me.  At that time I didn't realize I was the only one who could save me.  I eventually came to terms with my situation, I knew that if I couldn't take care of my son in the womb, then there was no hope for us when he was born.  I sought out adoptive parents that knew my situation and when my son was born they welcomed him into their lives!!!!  Luckily for me it was an open adoption and I  have access to his life.  Soon I will be meeting him for the first time!!(AMAZING!)
If you ever need someone to talk to, please contact me.  I understand.  Get to a meth doctor asap.  You can do this.
