Hi all(: I'm back!!!

And I'm clean and sober and loving mommy life!! I've been sober for almost 4 months now and going to regular meetings. And I found a nice one where they welcome my Daugher also(: so it makes it easy on me. You all helped kendo much and I love every singlenone of you for offering your advice to me in my time of need! And not to toot my own horn but I am an amazing mom and I've neve been happier(: babygirl is 8 weeks old an healthy as can be. But my question is about one of my oldest friends. She is also an addict and had been clean for a year until three weeks ago after her break up with her boyfriend. She has now been using liquid methadone daily for two weeks and I'm trying to help her stop but avenue scared of the withdrawal she may face. In my opinion I don't think she will have withdrawl for only two weeks of use am I wrong? Will she withdrawl so any of you have any advice for her or me to help her? Thank u all!

Congratulations to you!.  And what an exciting time - being a new Mom!  I don't have kids yet, but I can't think of a more special time in your life right now.  4 months is a long time and alot to be proud of.  Keep it up!  You'll need all of your energy and then  some for little Hailey!

Best of luck to you...

Sandy

Congrats from me too!  I love posts like this.  (although I too am sorry to hear about your friend - and I agree - be careful because triggers can come out of nowhere so GUARD UP).  :)

You also have to be careful with your friend. Relapse can happen when your not expecting it, so don't get real comfortable around her. You have to think of yourself and your kids. Withdrawals come from any mood altering chemical.  Your friend needs help with the drugs maybe 12 step program.     One day at a time or even one hour at a time

Well how great is this to see you posting!!!  I am really happy for you and it sounds like things are going really good for you!!  Congrats on that clean time!

Now for your friend.........Make sure you stay in your recovery.  I would not worry about the wd's.  My worries is she ran to drugs to deal with her breakup.  That's not what we do in recovery.  We deal with the emotions. Maybe introduce her to the meetings you go too.  That is what she needs.

Keep us updated on how you are doing!!!!  sara

Hi again---don't feel bad if you said to your friend that she won't have withdrawals. I think everyone has some withdrawal--even a gentle taper plan can really bother addicts. I pray that she is the one in a thousand that detoxes quickly and with minimum distress. Yes, take her to meetings. What a great idea! About tapering---most addicts do not have the strength to taper their own drugs. They need to: 1) just tough it out cold turkey, 2) go for in-house detox, or 3) have a family member dispensing the methadone.
You're a good friend, and she is lucky to have you in her corner. All the best to you both, and post so we know how both of you are doing. See you again soon----

Thank u for your comment. I guess I just figured since she was only using for such a short time she would be okay. I feel bad for telling her that now :/ well I guess all I can do is take her to my meetings with me(: maybe I could help her taper? How does that work? Any advice with that?

Hi---I am absolutely thrilled with this message from you! I am so thankful that you and your daughter are healthy. That alone makes living worthwhile!
Your friend is having a rotten time, and I am so sorry. And it's about to get rottener. Yes, she can be hooked in two week's time. Methadone has a very long half-life, and if she withdraws, she's likely to have an easy first day but a horrendous second day due to the methadone finally starting to exit her body and going down to a level where she starts feeling withdrawal symptoms, and not just that day---it'll take awhile before she feels well again. You are a good friend to post this, and I wish both of you--actually all three of you!---all the best.
