High dose

I am on a very high dose of OC.  Has anyone ever had any luck trying eo wean down from 8 to 16 OC 80's a day?  I know it is a huge dose and I would like to wean down some to try to lower my tolerance.  I know that I will always be on pain meds but I can not keep increasing the dose, so I thought if I tried to take as vacation , so to speak, maybe I could lower my tolerance.  Has anyone else ever taken this high of a dose daily?

There are people much more experienced then me when it comes to tapering but I might suggest maybe one a week let your body get used to that dosage. Then cut back another one. I guess it also depends on how low you want to go.  I am sure some will be a long shortly that will be able to help you better then me, just give them a bit of time.

Hi!   Well, sometimes it is slow around here,  I hope someone can answer your question soon, as I have NO idea abt. 80mg of anything.  My gosh,  that seems to be some serious pain med!   I Do know that you can wean down from abt. any med.!  Just elimated one pill every 7to 10 days.  You HAVE to be commited to do this, but is doable as I have and many others on here have done it.   First, how many do you take a day?is it 8 or 16 ?   If you set an amount, stick with it.  You will not be able to do this unless you are determined.  I urge you to try to do a doable tapper, you take a large amt. of oc and you will only need more and more as your tollerance will only get worse.  Please do this, your body will notice less pain with less opiates, I know that is hard to believe but it is so true.

You are on 1,280mg of oxys a day @ the most ???  Am I correct? Wow!  R u ready to be quite a bit uncomfortable for awhile and I mean awhile?? Largest dose was 350 to 500 for me. Two times the dose I took is quite a bit to taper. I believe this is the highest dose I have seen on the forum, but with strength and willpower u can do it. You MUST HAVE SOMEONE HOLD UR PILLS and dole them out to you.  You are looking at at least a 3 month taper if not longer to be productive. R u working now?   Since I am on a sub detox,,, maybe someone will come along to help you as I am not well right now. Have you thought about sub for awhile to get ur tolernace down? No reputable dr. would give u this much. Do you have the will power and endurance to do this? Honesty is a MUST!! I am suffering @ half the dose u are on. Be prepared. Nothing in life is free, Good luck and someone will be along 2 help u!

that is a touch dose to ct from;..u may need a drs help to taper down..r u disciplined when it comes to pills?  probably not cos ur dose is very high...if someone could hold themy for u may could taper.i rarely say this,,very rarely,,,but a dose of 800 mgs plus of oc may need to look at a maintenence narcotics...use it for a tool while u work ur issues out..u can do this..gotta make a plan

wow 16 80's a day? I would think you will need to seek professional help quell the major withdraws you're going to exp with something less addicting like suboxen or methdon, along with weening and doses like they're talkign about. I'm just on like 2 80's every other day and its really tuff to quit.

You gotta come down. My mom died 3 years ago from them. She was only 47 but the massive dosage she took was similar to yours and her body eventually shut down. Her liver failed. Now I'm trying to kick an OC addiction. Please taper down, you can do it and you have to. Choose life.

Its not that kind of thing.........the sub will work regardless. Its not dose dependant.

Some good info here. There are other factors that really play into this.
First how old are you and second how  long have you been using a dose that is over 100mg per day?

Beleive it or not you can get through this and faster than you think. If you find a addiction specialist and can afford to stay in a hospital for a week they will set you up on Ivs and really tapering you down quickly giving you other anti-convuslions meds, chondine and who know what else. If it were me I would take this route rather than using Subs because it only brings unpon another type of wds.
But really the hospital is your best bet imo they will do a cardio to check your heart, blood test for your liver, your present opiate level and work from that.
You see if you went cold turkey today by yourself it could be harmful but in a hospital you can taper quick and go cold turkey quick. Even at your doses those opiates have a half life once that half life is hit it is like they are out of your system as the remaining cannot pass through the blood brain barrier.
Any ways best of luck but I tell you the truth a week in a hospital with a doctor that works only with addicts can get you clean in a week time. I have seen it.

Oh and I am not talking about this rapid detox where they put you under that I do not agree with.

Hell I seen people with higher doses than ou get arrested and in the tank and kick it by themselves not a good thing at all but they did not die.
Wishing you the best but do not let anyone on this board tell you that opiates will not kill you at high doses. There is a lot of miss info around here at those does it can kill you all you need is a simple unknown flaw in your heart or your lungs collaspe and your dead.

123456m    is right.  Dosages like you are taking will lead to a dark end,  it never gets better, only worse.   Please, find help soon,  you are doing damage to your whole body with doses like that.

With all due respect,, read what Dr. J said on  his 3/18/09 response I asked him in regards to dose dependent. According to him it does matter!
Just wanna get the correct info that a physician stated that is specialized in addiction medicine

The sub will help if you follow what the dr tells you to do.  You should try something cause that's a lot of ocs.  They will help
